  • Comments Thread For: Hearn: In Defeat, I Feel Kell Brook's Stock Has Risen Considerably

EVEN in defeat, Saturday could turn out to be one of Kell Brook's best ever nights. The Sheffield star will not feel like that way when he goes under the knife later today to repair the broken eye socket Gennady Golovkin's wicked left hook gave him at the O2.

Brook is capable of beating any of the current world champs at 154. Getting at them through the cotton wool and bubble-wrap is going to be difficult though.

I'm really hoping now that Liam Smith can beat Canelo and set up a clash between he and Kell in the UK. That would be some event!

Well it was always a no-lose situation for Brook and was a big victory as long as he showed moments of him being a very good fighter.

Hearn and Brook's team can dress it up how they want before the fight saying the reason they took the fight wasn't because it was a no-lose situation, because they knew fine well that's exactly what it was. The only thing Kell had to lose was the fight. It wasn't going to make a dent in his reputation. Same with Khan v Canelo.

At the risk of Brook taking a beating, it was very smart business.

If Brook signs with HBO, I don't want to hear that "the best @ 154 are ducking Brook!" Brook knows that Haymon owns that stacked division! The best @ 154 are not on HBO!

This is bullsh... What I just saw last Saturday was a massacre. It took only two rounds for GGG to brake Kell's eye socket. I think that tells the kind of power GGG has. The boxing commissions have to stop this miss matches. GGG was simply just too big and powerful for Kell. They say that Kell's stock has risen with this bout but I feel is the opposite. A broken eye socket is no joke. It will take several plates and screws to repair that injury. I'm pretty sure every future opponent will target that surgically repaired eye. We will just have to wait and see if it holds up to more punishment. Kell tried to keep up with GGG and, at first, it was exiting to watch, but we all knew what was going to happen eventually. Kell was just too brave for his own good.

All I'm trying to say here is that an exceptional boxer's career may have ended last Saturday because of the greed of some boxing officials, managers, and promoters that allow this miss matches to take place knowing that the health of a human being is at stake.

Props to Kell. He has a hell of a Heart.

Nobody knows who is the best at 154. Those bubble-wrapped divas won't fight anybody.

There's nothing to stop Haymon fighters appearing on HBO if they want to do it.

And Hearn isn't even saying that Brook is going to sign any exclusivity deal, like GGG and Kovalev.

"Network issues" won't stop Kell getting fights with the Haymon guys. Them not wanting to risk fighting him could be a problem doe.

I disagree with Hearn. Brook did look good but the stoppage took away from that. I think what he showed early was very promising, but the jury MO is still out because he didn't finish.

I agree with your last sentence. But everything you wrote before that was bollocks.

Kell can come back from his injury, and it didn't happen because GGG was bigger than him. Brook can make 154 without weakening himself, so that's where he should fight from now on, but he was actually bigger than GGG in the ring, in the night.

We all know that the best: Lara, J-Rock, the Charlo Bros., Tony Harrison, etc., are with the PBC. We just saw Lara and both Charlo Bros, all fight in one night. We also saw Andrade fighting on Showtime! We just saw Harrison KO Rabchenko, @ 154. We know Gausha and Lubin are with the PBC! So if Brook goes to HBO, he's going away from the best of the 154 division! If he wants Cotto or Canelo, that's cool, but if he wants the best @ 154, PBC is where it's at! By signing with HBO, Brook will be setting himself up for "network issues" and everyone knows this beforehand!

If you look at ESPN's divisional (Top 10) rankings at 154, only Liam Smith (#8) is fighting on HBO. Everyone else is with Haymon, or fighting on Showtime! If Brook goes with HBO, that tells us that he does not want the best @ 154! Let's hope his campaign @ 154 is better than his past campaign @ 147!
