Yeah. Could be a combination of both. Either way, if I'm his trainer, that's the first thing I work on. Even if it doesn't fit his style per se, he should know how to do so effectively. After all, aren't the best fighters versatile? A few one dimensional or one trick pony fighters got by on being great at what they do, but versatility separates the men from the boys most times. We know Canelo can punch hard, put together great combinations and land that uppercut from afar, but cutting off the ring to go along with it would make him much more effective. And against Lara? It's a must.

The commission didn't seem to have a problem with them when they signed off on them...

It's one thing to learn how to cut off the ring. It's another to have the power and effectiveness in your punches when you get there. GGG has both these abilities and that's why he is so successful. Canelo's style is one that waits for the action to come to him. That won't work against a talent like Mayweather. He's just too good. Maidana had the right idea giving him the bums rush but his punching wasn't effective enough to put Floyd in danger. If Canelo had Maidana's aggressive style he may have had a shot at getting to Mayweather.

He could have, but that's not Canelo's style, and he wasn't successful when he briefly tried it. Golovkin is not quick, but Canelo has cement feet. He can't pressure and cut off the ring.

I also think that Canelo @ 22-23 when he fought Floyd is different than current Canelo. Younger Canelo wasn't nearly as solid as the current version. Canelo at 26 is an absolute tank. We can argue whether or not Golovkin was hurt by Brook, but we can all agree that those punches had an effect.

When Khan and Cotto landed on Canelo, ginger didn't even MOVE. Today's Canelo would bulldoze the living daylights out of Floyd.
