Canelo is a boxer (preferably a counter puncher), he's not a guy that likes to fight the way Golovkin did. Trying to box Mayweather was obviously the wrong plan, but fighting out of your style against the best fighter in the world would have left him more open.

Golovkin is 34 and has a lot of experience, Canelo was 23 when he fought Mayweather; he's a much more complete fighter now.
not really...his comp has been pretty easy since fighting Mayweather.

Canelo is still the same guy.

First someone gotta teach Canelo how to cut off the ring like GGG does.

        GGG.......now that's hittable.
I'm saying Canelo didn't use that strategy from the opening the way Golovkin did last night. It would have been more fun to watch had he done so. Canelo tried to box in his fight with Mayweather and was cautious to not get hit. Had he said F that and walked right to him throwing bombs, I don't know what would have happened. It would have been more fun, though.

          If he did that....

He would have walked right into Floyd's belly-jab...that alone would kill any aggression...not to mention all those counter-punches.

It makes you tired to miss all night..especially when you're getting poked in the solar-plexus all night.

Canelo simply doesn't know how to fight that way, nor does he have the tools to do so. He's a counter puncher that throws very good combos, but his feet are in cement. He can fight well on the back foot, but putting pressure/cutting off the ring is not his forte

He's beat Lara and Cotto since then, both very good wins.

He's made very clear improvements is virtually every area of his game.

Well, things also change over the course of a twelve round fight. If he could keep the pace up, it could have been interesting. Of course, given that it's Canelo, that probably wouldn't be the case. His stamina doesn't seem to be the best. But Floyd didn't fight fast paced fights, especially in his second career. I'm just pointing out that it could have been interesting. I know that some will never give any credence to it no matter what. Mayweather would jab and counterpunch anybody to death who might cross him. I get it. But contrary to popular belief, he was human, too.

That is true, but damn. Can a fighter not LEARN to cut off the ring? It's not that complicated. He should up his game on that.
