UK fans will buy the fight because Smith is English. They are great fans and the sport is much bigger over there than it is here, SMith-Canelo will sell
Oscar needs to stop being disrespectful, it's hardly a big fight...

It's the consequence of corporatization. Look at the music & film industries for a similar, watered-down version of tent posts.
But it's hard to blame the Arum's, haymon's, & oscar's of the world. If morons keep paying to watch fights that serve as "marination" for future, bigger fights, then the industry will keep chugging along as-is.
UFC 202 (mcgregor/Diaz) just broke its all-time PPV record at 1.6 million buys.
Bottom line: casuals make big events BIG, and don't give a **** if it's boxing, UFC, super bowl, etc...Make the Canelo/GGG fight soon, promote it well, and there will be plenty of money to go around for even the greediest of bastards.Comment

While he's not near peak Floyd or Manny level star power wise -- he's a boxing superstar in this current era of boxing. He's probably the most profitable guy out there today, assuming Floyd remains retired.
While those comments certainly didn't help matters, it's not the comments that sunk his star power. It was a combination of things. People have just simply lost interest. Fighting Tim Bradley over and over, getting KO'd in brutal fashion against JMM, fighting borderline B guys in Vargas, Algieri, and Rios (Rios actually is probably more accurately a C fighter in hindsight), and his utterly lackluster performance in the Floyd fight was the cherry on top of it all.
Honestly these networks can give two ****s about those comments so long as you can sell. Look at Floyd. The guy was/is a well known woman beater. Did that stop Showtime?
Bottom line is, if you can still bring in big numbers, the networks will always look the other way when it comes to your out of the ring f**k ups.Last edited by Mike D; 09-07-2016, 08:38 PM.Comment

Dela Hoya it's a one trick pony right now, look at 2012/2013 and look at him now, only Canelo is fighting for Golden Boy, the rest of his guys are in the pbc, but he needs to put Canelo against Golovkin because Canelo is losing his reputation even in mexico.Comment

I doubt it. It's on BoxNation which is a monthly subscription service so it's not like they can just buy the fight like a PPV. The only people in the UK that will be watching it here are the "hardcore boxing fans" (hate that term) that subscribe to boxnation.
Also, hardly anybody in the UK knows this fight is happening. With Liam Smith being a Warren fighter, it means he doesn't get that Sky exposure and that's what almost the whole country follow for their sports news. It's had almost no exposure here at all, and it hasn't helped that it's happening a week after Brook v GGG which is big here.
The viewing numbers here for this fight will be pretty low. It's also worth nothing that nobody here cares about Canelo, he's not a well known name outside of boxing fans and Liam Smith is not a big name either. If Smith was with Hearn with the Sky hype machine, he would be a much bigger name. His brother Callum is with Hearn and more people know about him than Liam, despite Liam holding world title (for what it's worth).Comment

Shut up.
No way GGG could fill the At&t stadium. Alvarez will do it fighting a complete nobody.
Time for you *****ass golovtards to come down to earth. Canelo still runs this **** and Golovkin better pay his respects if he wants to get paid.

Oscar doesn't want the fight to happen because GGG will probably knock Canelo out. There is nothing wrong with a flat fee if the flat fee is large enough. Oscar said the fee would be more than GGG ever made before so he probably means a few bucks more than GGG is making for the Brook fight. GGG should get paid as least as much as Khan was paid for fighting Canelo. The difference is Oscar knew Canelo would beat Khan so he wanted the fight. He wants people to believe he wants the fight to happen but he will make sure it won't happen by making GGG a very low dollar unfair offer.Comment
