Oscar needs to stop being disrespectful, it's hardly a big fight...

To the casuals at least. I know it's the biggest and baddest fight to drool over in boxing right now but it's not that big of a fight from a casual stand point. As much as we hate to admit it they have all the power because the casuals bring in more money. Canelo can make decent money against anybody but he's not getting a big payday without GGG. If GGG said **** it and went up in weight to win belts at 168 before chasing Ward/Kovalev. Canelo would be **** out of luck for any big fight any time soon until Garcia/Spence/Thurman decided to move up. And even then Canelo won't be at 154 much longer. He doesn't even like making the weight there as it is.

A flat fee is straight up disrespectful to the one guy he can actually make a "semi" big fight against. It's not even guaranteed to do a million plus. It'll be more likely to do 500-750k. And he won't do anywhere close to those number against anybody else. If he wants to continue to build his name he needs to make the big fights without being disrespectful. He needs Triple G as much as GGG needs him.

I'm a GGG fan, I think it definitely does a million buys and I think if GGG gets offered 10 million he should take it for sure...5-6 million maybe not because PPV upside will be too much to pass up for that money...

It's by far the biggest money fight in the sport and nothing comes close...
Ward-Kovalev may be the best overall fight but that's not gonna do 1/3 the buys if I had to guess...

The fight is FINE relative to the **** PBC is putting together of late and the usual fights we have been getting this year. As fans, casual or not, we need to be grateful for even fights like smith-Canelo brook- GGG. Boxing is in shambles right now KIDO.

I don;t understand the criticism, oscar is selling a B fight which is DOING HIS JOB. What is the problem, with all these pessimistic posts???

Cotto vs Canelo didn't even do a million and Cotto is a much bigger draw then GGG. I talk to a lot of casuals who are more UFC fans but would watch the Manny/Floyd fights and they know Cotto. But when I bring up Triple G they have no clue who that is. I'm not saying I know the whole world but it would do more overseas I would think then over here.

10-15 million would be fair. It just seems like Oscar is trying to low ball him.

Half the problem is that Golden Boy and co are desperate for a star and trying to push Canelo as the "face of boxing", HBO want it too. They need it after losing Floyd to Showtime and Manny going all Westboro Baptist Church and on his way out anyway. The problem is that outside of boxing fans, he's just that ginger mexican that got schooled by Floyd. And plenty of boxing fans just think he's a ducker and his popularity seems to be declining.

Don't get me wrong, he does pretty good numbers and is a draw, but he's really not the SUPERSTAR they say, not even close. They're trying to force people to believe he is a superstar but it's not really clicking or working. Manny and Floyd were real stars, no matter if you love or hate them. Canelo is not.

I do think Canelo is the A-side financially v Golovkin though, but not by the levels Golden Boy are making out.

Be grateful for Canelo/Smith? That has to be a joke lol Canelo could have literally fought almost anybody else and got more props. Andrade, Charlo brothers, Cotto or Lara rematch, or any top 10-15 fighter at 160 and it would of been so much better.

You got it wrong. Fights like Canelo/Smith are what's hurting boxing. I mean if it was on HBO that'd be fine but PPV? Really? Hardcore boxing fans barely even know who Smith is. Brook/GGG gets a pass IMO because Brook actually has a big UK fan base and the fight was made quickly after Eubank went all diva in the GGG negotiations.

Those anti gay comments messed with Mannys career. Major networks and promoters are hesitant to work with him now. It literally costed him MILLIONS!!!!

Andrade and Charlo would have been fine(Andrade is pretty protected) but the other you mentioned he beat EASILY and Lara brings no money to the table. Smith is better than you give him credit for, he can box and has subtle power.

Smith is big in the UK. The fight will do well

I totally agree and this is really my entire point. They want to act like Canelo is already on Floyd level but he's not. He won't do good numbers without a good opponent. He's a star but he's not a superstar. Floyd and Manny were superstars because they constantly fought some of the best fighters of their era and challenged themselves regularly by moving up in weight.

Making us wait while Canelo goes to fight Smith is what's completely wrong with boxing. It will bomb just like Floyd/Berto. Casuals aren't all that knowledgeable but they sure as hell aren't ******. Canelo doesn't draw heat like Floyd which is why he needs to move up and try to do something spectacular like beat GGG who we all know is the man at 160. Thats what the fans want. If he does that it could help bring him out of the rep of just being "the ginger who lost to Floyd."
