African Americans are in the right to root for their own. They have plenty of excellent fighters and held a tight grip on this game from many years. They are not rooting for them simply because of their skin color, but because they actually belong to the same ethnic group.

I have no problem with Eastern European fans being proud of their countrymen. I just don't see why a white guy from Maine should derive any sense of pride from ggg's success.

Can't they just be fans of one of the most exciting sportsmen in the world?

Golovkin is not British either, but has a huge following within boxing in the UK.

Similarly I'm a fan of Keith Thurman's, and I'm not mixed or American.

It's easy to understand.

Because he's been brave enough to fight in foreign countries - he's never demanded home country advantage.

Because his seek-and-destroy style is exciting to watch. He goes for the KO instead of running out the clock.

Because he doesn't childishly run his mouth and because he doesn't beat up women.

And because he wins by fighting within the rules, he doesn't need to use illegal head buttd, to clamp his opponents arms, to low blow, to elbow, etc.

On the subject of whether black people can be racist, I suppose in very rare circumstances that could be true but more than likely are not. Sure, Africa has been bleeding from ethnical, racial conflicts since always.

Slavery was an institution before the white euros came on the west of the continent.
