We're not going to see a Thurman-Porter type fight with them ****ing on the inside and not clinching much. Ward is not coming into this fight looking to win fans, he's looking to win belts. He has a roughhouse style of boxing that Kovalev needs to be aware of and needs to be prepared for. I honestly am expecting a takedown from Kovalev at some point if Ward clinches a lot, like he did to Pascal.
The boxing (sport) fan in me doesnt really like Wards style. The 'real fight' fan in me has an appreciation for it. We are fighting here, not just playing 'two hand touch'. (the exception in my opinion is low blows. No honor in groin shots) You cant just blame Ward and say Oh hes a dirty fighter. There is some onus on Kovalev to defend himself at all times, even from clinches and possible headbutts. He needs to be aware of where his head in with relation to Wards at all times. It might get ugly at times, but its going to be a great fight.Comment
