Maybe he tried to slap the gun away and the guy shot him again and mist but grazed the pinky?

Man dude got a plate in his knee though, I remember this kid when he was being trained by Roach, he gave Pacquiao hell and he was only 16 years old when he started sparring Manny.

Sadly he never really improved, similar to Frankie Gomez tons of potential but they never lived up to the hype.

His Kid brother David looks to be a good prospect though he is bigger than him.

Although I can't really say I'm a Benavidez fan, you have to feel some sympathy for the man. No one doing the right things in life should have this happen to them. I hope this cowardly act does not halt his career. I wish him a speedy recovery.

Anybody notice that TMZ is always the one breaking these boxing stories? This happened over the weekend and nobody in boxing reported it. Not Rafael, not boxingscene, not Pugmire, no boxing writers or sites. TMZ also broke the Broner bowling alley fight and Broner going to jail. TMZ breaks more boxing stories than people paid to actually cover boxing.

I hope he has a quick recovery but I'm not buying this story. Particularly because I live in Phoenix and there's very few parts of town in which this could happen and the suspect just be able to flee without being watched.
This sounds like he was involved in somebody sketchy and came up with a weak story to cover it up.

Thats what I think as well, Jose Jr was in Arizona by himself while his pops who is very overprotective is in Cali with his other son David.

Jose Jr probably tried to buy some weed or some meth or something, something sketchy, he just happen to get shot when his pops was around thats when Jose Jr had time to sneak into some shady business.
