3 years inactivity plus the natural tendancy of healthy men to get a little heavier during the late 20's/early 30's made Ward unable to fight at 168 any more. Golovkin had nothing whatever to do with it.
Ward and Virgil were talking about their current situation, they said last year they could make 168. Stop trying to take words out of context to suit your agenda ******.

Obviously they would have prepared differently for a fight at 168 compared to fighting at 175.

They didn't want to fight GGG last year, they wanted to fight him now. If Ward could make 168 he would still be fighting there. It's not like he's going to make more money against Kovalev than he could have made by unifying his title against one of the other 168 champs. In fact, he's going to make a lot less.

OMFG you are one ****** fucker.

If Ward signed to fight Golovkin he would have trained to make 168 not 175. How hard is that to understand?

Ward can't make 168 any longer; once he and his camp saw that Golovkin and his camp didn't want it at 168, Ward moved on, proceeding to go through his bulking program to physically be able to fight at light heavyweight.

Being a near full-175lber now, Ward has made it clear that he's never coming back down for anything.

Andre Ward fought Paul Smith June 2015, just about a month after Golovkin fought Willie Monroe Jr, and went on national TV to call Golovkin's hoe card. Once that was clear, Ward locked in the three-fight deal to fight Kovalev at 175, starting the bulk.

If you honestly believe that Ward couldn't have fought Golovkin at 168 before the bulk, you're a clown.

His own trainer has just said that Ward can't make 168!

What part of that don't you understand?

Or rather, what part of that do you not want to understand?

At least you are honest enough to admit you made a mistake, unlike Oscar, who insisted that Canelo was not a MW, despite him holding MW titles and fighting 1 lb over the SWW limit, which is in the MW division.

161 is SMW. So those people who said Canelo is doing the same thing to GGG as GGG did to Ward were talking out of their arses. If GGG had won a SMW title then tried to defend it against Ward at 161, that would have been the same trick as Canelo was pulling on him.
my ego is still shot to shlt.....i will have to reexamine my opinion of certain (canelo) fighters

Ward hasn't fought at 168 since 2013. Whether or not he could safely make168 now or ever is purely speculative. This us what Ward looked like at the Smith weigh in (171.8)

Then stop the damage control, stop talking about him and worry about the respect he lost by signing a contract to fight a WW.

"starting the bulk" what utter bullshit!

Ward didn't need to bulk up to 175. He's cutting down from 200lbs.
