I used to think he was, because most of the people who criticise GGG definitely are. But some just honestly don't rate him very highly. Even great fighters are underrated by some.

Marquez turned pro as a teenager and grew up through the divisions, so him being a multi-weight word title holder is not as impressive as if he'd done a Henry Armstrong and moved up through what would be the equivalent nowadays of 6 divisions, while still being able to make weight in his original, natural division.

Marquez may have won titles in more divisions than GGG, but has he ever been the undisputed best fighter in any of those divisions, and so dominant that he would be firm favourite to beat anybody in the world the same weight as him?

The answer to that question is no.
