But other greats could have beaten them as well. The question here is, which of the two men would have less losses if they fought all the greats?
That's tough to say. Both fighters had a tendency to switch off and get caught, though Ali was usually able to survive and fight on, while Lewis, on the two times he got caught flush, was stopped. Ali never fought such a large number of punchers though.

One thing that might swing things in Lennox's favour is the fact that he was never outboxed in his career while Ali was outpointed several times in his comeback and had a couple of iffy decisions go his way. Lennox never fought any truly tricky boxer punchers though, and pointedly avoided Chris Byrd, a man who could have potentially made him look bad.

Reasonable post except for the bolded part, how did that get in there? Foreman, Shavers, Frazier, Liston, Lyle? I dare say almost nobody has fought a larger number of punchers than Ali as far as hardest punchers ever go.

You did bring up a decent point though, that Lewis could be stopped but Ali is probably the most difficult ATG heavyweight to (T)KO. That combination of chin, ability to recover and heart probably makes him the one. The GOAT in head 2 head(as well as resume).

Lennox probably fought the most punchers in heavyweight history. Off the top of my head he beat: Tyson, Tua, Morrison, Vitali, Mercer, Rahman, Briggs, McCall, Ruddock and Bruno. Even guys like Evander could crack like the ****ens. So I'm going to have to stand by that statement.

Ali fought two guys who are widely considered the hardest punchers ever, on top of plenty of others I mentioned who are always mentioned in hardest punchers threads. I think Foreman, Shavers, Liston, Lyle, Frazier are just as impressive as the list you put up.

It was a pointless statement. Even if Lewis did fight just a tiny bit more amount of punchers what is the point of that? That Ali can't handle punchers as well? That Lewis can handle them better just because he MIGHT have one or more power punchers on his resume? This is a total non-issue. The only relevance is that Lewis was stopped twice by guys who aren't hitters like any of the names mentioned already and Ali wasn't. I don't see any of Lewis' punchers stopping Ali or even knocking him down(only Tyson could get a flash KD I believe).

I was responding to your singling out of the statement. Like my list shows, Lennox fought more than just one or two more punchers than Ali, he fought a significantly larger number, several of whom are easily the equal of Foreman and Shavers (Shavers as a puncher is horrendously overrated anyway).

The initial purpose of the statement was to show that, despite Lennox's two losses, those losses can be mitigated somewhat by considering the number of punchers he fought who could have put him away and didn't. It doesn't erase the two losses, but in the heavyweight division where anyone can potentially put you away, it puts into perspective the fact that only two men out of how many were ever able to knock him down.

Except it doesn't do you any favors that those two men weren't even close to the punchers(and opposition quality in general) Ali fought. It does help that Lewis fought many hitters but it's still a ***** in his armour compared to Ali as a H2H fighter.

And I will make a thread in the history section with a poll so people can vote on Ali and Lewis' resume of punchers.
