Comments Thread For: "Fighting Words" - Billy Joe and Canelo: Saunders' Stubborn Stand

by David P. Greisman - Billy Joe Saunders is far from the first fighter to have his business decisions come into question. He's far from the worst. Others have lost years off their careers, lost their world titles, lost out on significant paydays, lost opportunities and lost respect. Saunders hasn't lost comparatively much just yet. That doesn't mean his decisions aren't questionable...

If he's being stubborn, hold out on him too. WBO will force a mando soon, they won't want a champion who doesn't defend anything and they'll want in on Canelo or GGG.

The longer Billy waits, then the less options he has. WBO will force a mando soon and from there he can be driven down in price because they could just bank on Khurtzide or whoever wins the WBO elim winning the title.

What do you expect? Boxers are historically ******.

Let's turn down a 6 figure paycheck to fight a journeymen on Canelo's undercard and not get a multi million dollar paycheck a few months later vs canelo... Lmao. Idiots

Saunders is waiting to cash out. He won't risk his only 'bargaining chip', the WBO belt for peanuts vs nobodys. He wants a really fat paycheck (4-5 mill $). Canelo and especially GGG wants that WBO belt, so Saunders wants a really high price for it.

Almost incomprehensible behaviour from Saunders - I mean does he think his value's gonna go up by not fighting anyone? Monroe, Stevens or Rosado were all winnable and potentially quite exciting matchups which would have raised his virtually non-existant US profile and helped pave the way for either a Canelo or GGG fight. With the Eubank rematch not looking remotely likely and no other enticing (or at least lucrative) domestic clashes on the horizon where exactly is he hoping to go from here?

WBO belt for sale to the highest bidder... unless you're Named GGG, then I'll keep it and just not fight anyone.

This guy. You should take the low ball offer just to get exposure in USA. If you win or put on a good fight then you can become someone who can asks for more money. A british title doesnt do anything for boxing fans in thr USA. He needs to make a sacrifice to get a head. Otherwise keep having battles on twitter, thats how you get someone to give you more money. Lol
