PBC, Showtime, & Schaefer all working as one unit

that in itself is a dramatic shift of the original mantra of the PBC go back to last year and look at the first 4-5 months of the pbc existence and the almost none existence of showtime fights after wilder stiverne. when the money started drying up we saw more and more showtime fights in the fourth quarter with terrible ratings for shows like degale-bute, quillin-jacobs etc. That is why Espinoza said they are cutting out shows in Nov and not going up against football as much.
Now if you go back to that same time frame, NBC and ESPN were putting on shows like Thurman-Guerrero, Thurman-Collazo, Porter-Broner, Santa Cruz-Mares, etc and now put on inexpensive fights like Fonfara-Smith, Spence-Bundu and ESPN has gone down to 100k per show or less type of events the same as FS1. Now in that same period PBC and their fighters all over social media with this hashtag #freeboxingforall
That is gone now. Now the "free Boxing" has been fnf level fights that we always had "free" and a very small handful of Wilder-Arreola, Garcia-Guerrero fights. We can't even count Porter-Thurman since Showtime bought that fight and chose to put it on CBS.
If you don't see the difference in the PBC from last year to this year you must be biased.Comment

They told you from the beginning that Showtime would remain a major player. In the first press release. In the ensuing press releases.that in itself is a dramatic shift of the original mantra of the PBC go back to last year and look at the first 4-5 months of the pbc existence and the almost none existence of showtime fights after wilder stiverne. when the money started drying up we saw more and more showtime fights in the fourth quarter with terrible ratings for shows like degale-bute, quillin-jacobs etc. That is why Espinoza said they are cutting out shows in Nov and not going up against football as much.

Yea, but they've been heading that way since 1997 or something like that. So its a position they've accepted more or less before PBC was even a idea in Haymon's head.
It was always going to happen that they had less of a boxing bankroll it was just a matter of who & when. I mean **** man I believe Showtime was within a couple mill of surpassing them in the recent past.
And lets be real if HBO saw their future in boxing in 2017 & beyond they could throw a hundred million or more at HBO Boxing & HBO Boxing is back in a big way out of nowhere. That said its unlikely to go down cuz HBO has seen less & less appeal & return on investment one would assume over the years with boxing & therefore its not the most profitable investment they can make for HBO's future. Thats ultimately what this is all about.
There is no HBO Boxing vs PBC thing going on. Its more like a HBO vs Netflix thing going on & HBO can compete with Netflix better by coming up with the next Game of Thrones instead of Pacquaio vs Crawford.Comment

LOL some of these cats are immune to logic brother. I've posted the quote & a direct link to that statement a few times in threads & it shuts everyone up, but you'll still see cats saying PBC fighters on Showtime is some sign that PBC is doing bad.Comment

HBO is getting out of boxing because they are LOSING.
They blackballed Haymon and thought he'd come back crawling, but instead he got his revenge by taking control of 80% of the talent and freezing HBO out.
Now HBO can't make a good fight...only mismatches and retreads...so they're taking their toys and going home.
Packing it in because they lost.Comment

Losing to who? Like I keep saying HBO Boxing is a small part of HBO. HBO Boxing isn't in competition with anyone reallllllly. HBO is in competition with Netflix.
I believe HBO has had 2 or 3 Haymon fighters on HBO in the last 3 or 4 months. Peter Nelson isn't in the blackballing Haymon business like the previous guy may or may not have been depending on who you talk to about it.They blackballed Haymon and thought he'd come back crawling, but instead he got his revenge by taking control of 80% of the talent and freezing HBO out.
Also PBC/Haymon/PBC friendly promoters don't have anywhere close to 80% of the talent.
This is more valid. But its because of their reduced budget that HBO has been giving them for years. HBO Boxing's budget has been reduced year after year for about 2 decades. Its finally gotten to the point where any half way decent fight between top 3, top 5 caliber guys needs to be a PPV now. Thats a problem for sure, but it has virtually zero to do with PBC & more to do with HBO's current main competitor Netflix. If HBO isn't able to compete with Netflix f#ck HBO Boxing there might not be a HBO in 15-20 years. And boxing doesn't move the needle for them like it used to.Now HBO can't make a good fight...only mismatches and retreads...so they're taking their toys and going home.Comment
