It is a fact that Ward did not look good against Brand. It is also a fact that Kovalev looked bad against Chilemba. Kovalev missed a lot was countered looked able to be outboxed by a elite. Ward never got hit never missed but did not look like SM Ward. He really needed more tuneups.

I didn't watch the fight either, it doesn't matter anyway. Kov didn't look too good with Chilemba either and that fight I watched live cringing my toes.

That's why Bute kept asking to get in the tournament but they wouldn't let him because he and Ward only wanted guys in the tournament he could beat for sure.

So Ward has never looked good. Fouled and held to decisions against B fighters like Froch, Kessler, Bika, usually with hometown refs and judges in his corner, but he's never looked "good," been entertaining, or beat a top fighter.

Kessler, Froch and Abraham are all Hall of Fame boxers and were a combined 80-3 before losing to Ward. Each fight had only 1 American judge and Sakio Bike was a replacement for an injured Andre Dirrell.

Bute was in Canada beating up 37 yr old Mendy and 42 yr old Johnson before getting exposed by Froch while Ward was dominating the 168 pound elite.
