Remember she said Kovalev's home base would be Vegas with MGM? They sold 2,000 tickets to that fight and haven't fought there since. The only logical place for this fight to take place is the Bay area. Ward doesn't sell tickets outside the Bay area. Kovalev doesn't sell tickets anywhere in the U.S. And the build up to this fight has done nothing to make it a bigger fight. Anticipation is about the same as it was when it was first announced.
I think you might be right about this. Other than Montreal, I can't see where there would be an excited, hot crowd other than Oakland.

Canelo couldn't sell out the T-Mobile Arena and isn't going back there until/if he fights GGG. People think this is a good venue for Ward vs. Kovalev?

It's not but it stops ppl from saying Ward only fights in Oakland which makes since for this fight just goes to show HBO haven't given krusher the backing and exposure he needs like they did Triple g, krusher resume is 10x better but yet don't have the following to make this fight bigger then what it is which is hands down best fight in any division we can ask for against p4p top 5 guys

I'm very interested to see what kind of undercard fights that Main Events and Rock Nation put on.

If they can put both Cotto and Rigo on the undercard in meaningful to decent fights then they may have a chance to do as much as Canelo.

It just feels right to have a fight this good in Vegas.

It's going to be a hard sell. Sad because its the best fight that can be made in boxing right now.

Ward has the personality of drywall and Kov despite his crowd pleasing style, hasn't been marketed correctly.

This is very true right here. I will enjoy it but a half empty arena and barely 200k PPV sales will be a black eye for the sport given these are 2 of the top 5 boxers in the world IMO.

Really surprised they didn't consider the LA Forum. It's close enough to Ward's die hard fans, but loaded with real fight fans as well. They really want the site fee from MGM and low/no LV taxes.

I really hope they get a strong undercard. Neither RNS or ME have any other damn fighters to showcase.

How do you think Kovalev should have been marketed differently? He always speaks English to the media, even, knowing he isn't great at it. He has a bit of a mean streak which has come across in interviews in talking about Pascal and Stevenson. And as noted he has a very fan friendly style.
The only issue I really have with him is the racial comments he has made on social media.
I guess you could question them not trying to build him up in one specific area as opposed to moving him around.

I like that the fight is going to be in Vegas. (and not just because I plan on going) I do question T Mobile as the site given its size. I think either MGM or Mandalay would be a better choice. The only hope I have with regards to the T Mobile is that hopefully the tickets will be made more affordable in an attempt to sell that many seats.
