Ward is the slight favorite IMO... doesn't mean much against a contender like Sergey
Dude....ward is a better fighter n 19 years younger than Hopkins.

I picked Hopkins...... If I picked pascal...prove it or stfu
I'm irritating you? You'll get over it

Kov showed how good he was vs Hopkins....great performance... Ward is a level of a 50 year old Hopkins who doesn't overexert or take the lead often

posted an interview JDJ had with fighthype...he clearly stated he says things to try and get into wards head

you hope he gets knocked out, just like sanchez......if thats all you have in your tool shed its gonna be an uphill battle....POPKins saw the final bell, so did chilemba. Ward brings more to the table talent wise than both at those guys.

      its a waste of time

idk about self entitled narcissist....more like a professional fighter who has lost in almost 20 years who believes in himself and is dedicated to his craft

        Mark my words

Ward is no chilemba or Hopkins

Kov will be expending far more energy vs ward
Ward is fantastic from the outside. He jabs upstairs and downstairs, he is one of the best in the game at catching and shooting, but with someone like Kovalev you have to give him a reason to stop coming forward and throwing punches. He does'nt mind taking one or two to give one, and Ward's power is'nt going to prevent him from being on Ward like white on rice. Which means Ward is going to have to tie him up and do his thing on the inside. If Ward can keep Kovalev on the inside and land those nice short hooks to the body, catch him with some nasty uppercuts, turn him, pop him with the jab on the way out and rinse and repeat, yeah he probably wins easy. I'm just not convinced he will be able to do that though.

it doesnt matter how good your chin is or how hard your opponent punches if you are consistently hitting air and they are landing. Its about scoring points...not knockouts.

Pernell whitaker was no big puncher but he got your respect because he could fight inside, outside, throw body shots, and catch and shoot and was a champ across 4 divisions

floyd got your respect too because of accuracy, potshots, and subtle inside nuances and was a champ across 5

not saying ward is on their level but he is a multi faceted fighter like they are and can fighter anyway, anywhere, anyhow in the ring.

Kovalev is pretty open to jabs and left hooks....Also he doesnt move his head a lot, nor does he fight inside or clinch much

in close fights like this I usually go with the more versatile guy

He's self entitled. I'm still waiting for his excuse to sue the promoter that made his career while in his death bed. Some son of god he is.

Ward's career will end in November. Expect him to stay in his announcer job for the rest of his time in the sport.

Ward isn't fantastic just from outside, he's a master of controlling the distance. I agree with your assessment and I also think it's a lot easier said than done because Ward, for all his skills, is slightly chinny and, more important, has stamina issues.

JDJ have to find a EDGE for his fighter, nothing wrong with that at all, does mean he is right. How many times have Roach and these other big mouth trainers been prove wrong time and time and again only to have to backtrack or help their fighters make excuses after the fight. Going into the Spence Jr vs Algeiri fight, JDJ was running his mouth about Spence Jr as well the Spence Jr DESTROYED his guy and he had to reluctantly backtrack a little bit after the fight lol

if he was as chinny as you guys say, wouldnt you think guys with proven power like Kessler, Froch and abraham would have at leats dropped him?

Froch hit him with some good shots once he warmed to the task mid fight.

Seems more like hope than actual evidence. Barrera also clocked him good with some straight rights that he tried to counter and he did NOT wobble or studder step

sound like a little bit of reaching to me

he has done pretty good for someone with stamina issues, considering he has never lost a 12 round decision and usually wins most of the later rounds

Why would I hope he's chinny? You do too much, man. I've seen Ward dropped before by Boone and I seen him rocked by some non-descript guy so I do believe he can be hurt, particularly by Kovalev.

Anyway, Ward is excellent defensively. He knows how to avoid shots on the outside and he knows how to smother on the inside and take steam off your shots, which is what he did with the people you mentioned. And I don't rate Barrera as a power puncher but if Kovalev clocks him like that, he's in trouble.
