Excessive holding turned out to be not the problem in the Crawford fight. It's excessive running. I don't think you can implement any rule in such case. Both were holding even in the slightest trouble.
Excessive holding, please clarify what constitutes a foul?

He WAS warned. Bayless warned him every time - thus why he didn't do it more than 1-2 per round.
He wasn't warned as much against Maidana in the first fight because Tony Weeks doesn't care unless you're blatantly fouling - i.e. the rabbit punches. Thus why Broner didn't get a point off against Porter until the championship rounds despite CONSTANTLY holding.
Manny and Maidana's styles are awkward and at times wild, and the clinch is used to suppress that to avoid getting caught with the kind of shot Maidana nailed Broner with and the kind of shot Manny nailed Mosley with.Comment

Back in the day clinching was only used to buy yourself some time when you were hurt and/or got back up from a kd. Now its just use to "frustrate" not just the opponent but also the fans.Comment
