Therein lies the problem: who? Who at 168 is taking the GGG challenge in Septemeber? You can count DeGale & Jack out as they are heading toward a unification fight. And you can take Zurdo out of the equation due to injury. Who's left at 168? That's the problem. How much further down the list does a champion have to go to find a credible opponent? Modern day boxers definitely aren't taking on the challenges the fans deserve. The more you dig, the more you question the other fighters discussed as GGG opponents.

Current rankings should always be based on recent activity. If we're basing a p4p list on this criteria, then GGG should be ranked higher than Ward purely because he's accumulated titles. Not saying he deserves the top spot. But it must be pointed out that tune-ups is not going to raise a boxer's ranking...nor should anybody consider doing so. And you can't base a current p4p ranking on something a boxer did 5 years ago. That's idiotic. Because if Pac comes back to fight, wouldn't you have to place him at the top of the list?...his resume trumps any current boxer's resume. Why wouldn't he be considered the #1? Food for thought...

To give Ward the p4p position ?That's like saying manny is StILL the best fighter because he did this and that back in 2009-2011 lol it's irrelevant. Manny pacquiao at 37 looked far better against a prime elite 147 pounder than Ward did against a nobody at 175 lol. If you think GGG hasn't done ****, he's made everyone in his division lose their pen.
        Good post

If Kovalev wins, he won't fight Kovalev. Kovalev has said as much that he has no desire to fight GGG. If Ward wins, the same people will be asking him to come back down to 168 to fight GGG. The real question should be: is Ward willing to come back to 168 for the GGG fight?

Everybody knows Golovkin and...holy crap, the most popular Mexican fighter of his time gave up a freaking belt to duck Golovkin. Incredible.

Freddie is entitled to his opinion but you can't use caliber of opponents to support the opinion of Triple G being P4P #1.

Side note: True #1 P4P Roman Gonzalez is preparing to challenge for a 4th divisional title. #2 P4P Sergey Kovalev is preparing to fight #4 P4P Andre Ward

#3 P4P Gennady Golovkin is preparing to fight non-P4P, 2 divisions below him, Welterweight Champion Kell Brook...........Wait! What?
Therein lies the problem: which 168 champion is willing to fight GGG in September? Zurdo is injured. DeGale & Jack are looking to have a unification bout. Who does that leave? It's easy to say a guy should move up. But who is this boxer who wants the GGG fight? When the GGG/Eubank fight seemed to be all but a done deal, HBO set a hard date of September 10 for GGG's next fight. He needed an opponent for that date. GGG/Brook is a mismatch...that's a given. But we can't ignore the narrative that accompanies this bout.

Golovkin won his first Middleweight title, the WBA title, by beating #4 ranked WBA, 14-2-1 Nilson Julio Tapia.

Little things like this are why fans criticize Golovkin's resume and will not accept any claims of him being #1 P4P. Golovkin has a lot too prove where as Ward has already proven himself against superior competition.
Ward surely was a great SMW. But current p4p rankings have to be based on current activity. Ward won the Super-6 five years ago. That fact cannot be ignored. GGG is not the #1 p4p fighter in the world. Neither is Ward. If you're going to give Ward the top spot for tune-up wins, then the rankings are truly a joke.

I think Ward, Brook, Kova, Golovkin are all great fighters.

What i do not understand is why people on this forum cannot like all of them.
I love all of them and think they are all great and from one perspective or another they all give us great fights.

Roman has clearly taken that spot over and if anyone on this forum knew anything about boxing they'd realize it!

Ward is a technician and a very good one he is the modern day Archie Moore!
GGG is the "pressure" styled fighter who uses a "boxers" form and style to achieve his goals.
Roman is a boxer/puncher who has ALL the punches and uses defensive moves to counter punch off of!

Roman does what the others do and more..............he is more thorough with a deliberate style and is the most damaging competitor too!

I believe you'll see GGG step up once he gets the division he's in conquered.
I think Ward has a good challenge coming in Koval but Koval needs to be at his very best to compete with Ward.
Chocolatito also has challenges in front of him and he's the fighter I'd rather watch than any other in boxing right now. A true champion and complete package!

                    Ray
Amen brother. That's the kind of post I was waiting for. Chocolatito is the real deal. Keep up the good work.

People forget Ward wasn't the favorite in the Super 6. When has GGG been the underdog? At the end of the day Ward accomplishments dwarf GGG. Or put it another way if you climbed Mt. Everest or the Himalayan mountains 3 years ago and I've only climbed my local hill but have done it 10 times does that make me a better climber?
Current p4p rankings are always based off of current activity. That's why they release a new one every year. If Ward's position on that ranking is based off of tune-up wins, then the ranking is truly a joke.
