Im not sure Ward was trying to lock Kovalev into50%, but yes, a deal similar to the one that still has a tune up fight and several months to go before actually happening. Kovalev was in a different position holding 3 if the 4 major world titles than Golovkin who at the time only held 1 and was mandatory for another. It is my belief that if GGG had accepted the Ward offer then he would not be WBC champ today

Not quite because Brand's last fight was at Light Heavyweight so I believe that makes this upcoming fight both the 2nd fight at the LHW limit of 175 pounds for 2 long time Super Middleweights. That's not quite the same as a career Middleweight fighting a career Welterweight. However, Brook is certainly more accomplished than Brand.Comment

You can't reason with people. They know all this is true but act as if k2 didn't just try every top MW on earth and get rebuffed.
They want Lara, who also prices himself too high. Sanchez just said Lara should put a legit package together.
Do you think he will? I don't.Comment

Ummmm... yeah, calling it a LHW fight but the weights were SMW. Really. Although they both came in a little over 168. Thought I remembered Bektemirov coming in at 167 3/4, it says 170 3/4 at Boxrec. So call it LHW if you want, it's in the LHW zone comparable to Canelo Khan's 155 MW fight.Comment

That's interesting speculation but the fact remains, Ward moved up to face a much greater challenge in Kovalev while GGG passed on a greater challenge in Ward to ultimately fight Wade and Brook. This is yet another year in which Golovkin's resume will be called into question.
Since the Ward offer last July, GGG has gained 2 world titles, and Ward has vacated oneComment

according to hearn they did not reject it, they wanted the fight, just missed the deadline
then tried to sign and were told they had missed the deadlineLast edited by FrankieBruno; 07-11-2016, 04:35 PM.Comment

I say Ward passed on a Gokovkin fight. The initial offer from GGG was Sept 15. Ward countered with mid to late 2016. GGG said maybe 2017. That is not passing on a challenge. If we use the Kovalev situation as a gauge, it would only have been a month and some change between proposed dates. "This is yet another year in which Golovkins resume will be called into question" only because Canelo wont fight, Saunders won't fight, Jacobs won't fight, Eubank wont fight, not even Toreano Johnson wants to fight Golovkin.

Yes, let's pretend they weren't talking about Ramirez and 168. Let's pretend they even tried to find an opponent at 168 and that wasn't just more of the big talking they're known for. Bradley called out Golovkin last year. By your logic, that would be a legit fight because Timmy asked for it. Bravo.
If you think Bradley was serious, and no one else will sign with GGG next... Bradley can get some I'm sure!
BTW, all boxing enthusiasts are tuning in to watch the most talked about fighter in the boxing world right now... GGGodzilla!Comment
