Comments Thread For: Canelo Back on 'Regular' HBO? - Door is Open For December

Boxing fans won't get to see Saul Canelo' Alvarez any time soon in the one middleweight fight that most in the industry craved to witness, but can at least expect to see more of him in 2016.

"Although Alvarez is unlikely to face Golovkin until at least fall 2017, he is planning to fight again on Dec. 10 as he makes his way up to a full-fledged middleweight,"

Why does Dan Rafael report this as good news?

Probably just another big money "showcase" fight on regular HBO that pushes better fights to PPV, if they get made at all.

So after he goes to 154 he's going to go back to 155 and work his way up to MW?

Has anyone in boxing media asked the follow up of why they moving down to move up to Oscar's or Canelo's face yet? Dying to see the answer to that one.

Canelo on regular HBO versus hopefully a legit middleweight hopefully at 160, I don't see how that's a bad thing, especially when we already know he isn't fighting Golovkin until next year

if GBP deem liam smith a PPV calibre opponent then i dread to think what kind of opponent they will get for a regular HBO card

So Smith is a big enough name to be a PPV opponent but whoever they have in mind for December isn't? Must be someone really unimpressive.

Plus if anyone asks why they won't face one of the best at 154 Oscar can say it's because the best guys would want a big payday and that would mean PPV, and since the next fight isn't PPV it means it can't be a legit opponent. And they'll probably talk like being on regular HBO is some kind of gift to the fans like they did when Oscar fought Steve Forbes.
