Like Andre Ward? Even Mayweather wasn't as bad or when broner magically appeared on the list, he had better recent opposition at the time.

ward's last 4 years have been prospect level opposition.

Personally I would not have him anywhere near a p4p top 10 but I know many of you would so which other p4p entrant, over a span of 4 years, fought bums?

The way I understand pound for pound is supposed to work is it's your opinion on how good a fighter is right now pound for pound compared to other fighters. Only his recent fights of the last year or two years at most should count. Ward's impressive accomplishments of 4 to 6 years ago shouldn't count in rating him pound for pound. It's how well he is fighting right now, today that should determine his place on a pound for pound list. Ward's recent opposition has been too weak for him to be considered a top ten pound for pound fighter today. It's hard to judge how good he is today when he feasts on smaller mediocre fighters who aren't even rared in the top 30 in the world in their weight class. If Ward beats someone like Kovalev than of course he is right back at or near the top of any pound for pound list. He has to prove how good he is right now. He shouldn't be on any list based on what he did in the super six tournament. However pound for pound lists are just based on personal opinion and are almost impossible to prove. If someone wants to put Ward at the top of their pound for pound list they can because it's their list and nobody else's.

He has fought two times since 11/2013 what the hell are you talking about?

Are you saying he has no talent? That his skill level is over rated?
That there was a better super middle in his time?
Whats your problem, are you a hater sonny?
He just moved up to light heavy and is fighting a couple of bouts to acclimate to the division and also get back to the job of preparing to train and fight. Two years off is a long time for anyone to miss.
He'll sign for Koval and they'll make a good showing!

The fight will flop. More fans will buy it because of Kovalev than Ward, even though Ward is the American, it will still flop.

Andre Ward is a disaster. Some people here act like he is a godsend but actually 90% of the regular boxing fans hate him.

For obvious reasons, he is a pretender and liar and has the charisma of a rotten corpse. He fights dirty and needs every advantage in every fight. Never travels, never takes risks. I expect him to somehow pull out of the Kovalev fight.

I reckon he should still be p4p no.1 in 2050.

Good post up until the last part. P4P isn't simply opinion, otherwise my favourite fighter currently (Frampton) would be p4p no. 1.

P4P lists have always and will always have a certain level of fact and ultimately, truth to them.

The truth of Ward is this: A fight ago he went 9 rounds with a fat, unmotivated journeyman. Last fight, he sc****d by a decision win over a prospect. Those are simple facts and should not allow him a position on the p4p, no matter how much you personally like Ward.

If you can find where I said that, I'll give you a thousand quid.

Second, after his win over Froch, Ward has had one of the most average careers of any elite fighter EVER. He beat a weight drained Dawson but ok, at least Dawson was a world caliber fighter but after that, he has only had 3 fights in 4 years, none of them against a top world level opponent, regardless of weight.

His showpiece fight in 2015 was against Paul Smith, who in his prime years was KOd by Groves and DeGale, both while they were prospect/domestic level fighters and in far more brutal, one sided fashion.

So, I come to my original question, has any previous p4p entrant had this level of opposition over a period of 4 years and still maintained his place as p4p? Answer that, sonny.

Probably Golovkin. Dominic wade.... wow. Ward isn't even a belt holder at 175 but he's fighting the type of opponents Golovkin and Kovalev fight (Barrera was Kov's mandatory).

I assume from your post you DO think that other p4p entrants have had a worse level of opposition spanning 4 years?

With that in mind, do you mind naming such fighters? After all, that's the point of the thread.

GGG in the last 4 years has fought former title holder Geale, current holder Lem and men who arguably beat Sturm, Murray and Macklin. And in the last 4 years of his career, he has not only accumulated 3 of the 4 available title belts, he has annihilated his opponents.

                    Try again.

Edit: Plus, GGG has only been a p4p entrant for less than half the time Ward has been.
