If boxing fans want to apply pressure on Canelo, don't buy Canelo vs. Liam Smith! If Canelo can get a sold out venue in Las Vegas and 700K PPVs, why would he be in a rush to fight GGG? Canelo has plenty of talent to choose from @ 154 after Liam too! Andrade, Charlo twins, J-Rock, etc. This is why I thought GGG should have accepted the 155, and then forced Canelo to walk away from that. That would've damaged Canelo for good!

Mayweather is right people did say he was "scared and a coward". Thats my lasting impression of him, but its unfortunate that he continues with this rhetoric trying to damage the sport even further and theatens to squash all manner of competition in boxing.

once again he admits his whole strategy was to duck people and not to lose but people will ignore this and think they know better than king ducker himself. the floyd-pac fight was only a 60 million fight when they were both doing 1 million ppv buys and when their numbers went down it went up to 600 million? hmmm this doesn't seem logical.
floyd to canelo "don't fight ggg"
floyd to ward "don't fight kovalev"
floyd to himself "don't fight guys that can beat you. wait wait wait, stall, stall, stall"

Yes was an exciting fight worth $60 million, turned into a $500 million fight between senior citizens. Cong****..for all this business acumen of his there seems to be a void in terms of quantifying what will keep his name buzzing. There isn't one fight besides this one on his record people will still talk about 50 years from now like they did Ali v Foreman. I think Floyd is an amazing athlete but he went too Hollywood after DLH. Hell Marquez has a hotter highlight than Floyd careerwise in knocking the shhh out of pacqauio.

One of the most annoying things about fight fans is their hypocrisy and double standards when it comes to their favs, and/or fighters they dislike. And I've probably been guilty of it a time or two myself. All players play the risk/reward game. And when its one of our favs, some fans turn in to private investigators/defense attorneys in order to justify the move and save face for our favs. But when our favs become victims of the risk/reward game, we stand on the highest mountain we can find shouting injustice. And glory, legacy, blah, blah, blah.
The fact is, GGG has been avoided. But he's also done some avoiding himself. Everyone knows his team didn't want the Ward fight right now. Is GGG scared of Ward? Nope. Is Ward a risky fight that's not gonna pay much more than much easier fights? Yep. Which is why it makes business sense not to do that fight. Lara's arguably the top guy at 54, depending on how you saw the Canelo fight. So legacy-wise, there's really no difference between fighting Lara or Canelo. GGG wants Canelo because of the payday. Is he scared of Lara? Nope. Is their risk that even in victory, GGG could be made to look very ordinary and derail some of the indestructible aura he has now? Yep. Hence, Lara's not a good risk/reward move.
On the flipside. GGG isn't a big enough star to generate suitable paydays for some of the guys he wanta to fight to get in with him. Canelo can essentially d1ck around with the Khans, Smiths, etc and make close to the same amount of money he could make with GGG without taking half the risk. He's also likely looking big picture and is probably waiting to see if Floyd and/or Manny is gonna come back. And if they do, he's clearly #1 on their list. A GGG fight could derail that. So why risk it. You also have a guy like Saunders that can make good money fighting at home, against much lighter competition. You also have a guy like Danny Jacobs that probably wants to ride the cancer patient to world champion storyline out a lil longer.
At the end of the day, it sux. But as fans, we can't conveniently change the rules and demands based on who we like and don't. I mean really. Is GGG avoided? Yep. But he's not close to being as avoided as Rigondeaux. And a lotta the same people that b1tch about GGG being avoided. Applaud Rigo being avoided. I'm still waiting on a logical explanation of how that makes sense.

Is it considered a duck even if they fought eventually? He admitted to ducking Pac for a few years to build up the fight.
Anyway, where the f is the WBA who promised to push the Jacobs mando if the Canelo fight fell through? Well the fight fell through now we want GGG vs Jacobs, make this happen WBA!

Pacquiao's PPV numbers took a huge dive starting from the moment he got put to sleep. At least he recovered; his numbers didn't.
Then of course, notable mention: Roberto Duran, "No Mas" certainly dropped his stock.
Four of the one-time biggest draws in boxing were never the same after losing. Tyson was still a draw, you're correct there. But that's because everyone knew him losing was Robin Givens fault, not that his opponent was any better than him.
The only fighter I can recollect kept the bulk of his draw power even in loss was Lennox Lewis, and that's because he always avenged said losses in exquisite fashion.
Tyson was a huge draw even after losing to Holyfield twice as well. The Lennox Lewis fight was the biggest of his career.
Pacquiao's choice of guys after Marquez were limited, as already noted. It's a big reason why people were growing more and more frustrated with he and Mayweather not squaring off and you saw what kind of buyrate that did when it finally happened.
No comment on the first two examples, but in what way did Duran's stock drop after the loss to SRL?
Let's not leave Muhammad Ali out either. His losses didn't affect his career at all.
