Mandatory are spots earned by fighters working to climb the latter just as Thurman or Floyd was at one time. The guy earned his shot to fight Thurman, what happens to the sport if its all pick and choose. Look how it has affected it already.
I'm not a fan of what Canelo did, but I don't think its horrible for the sport. Its more just a bad mark for him specifically that he avoided GGG than anything title related to me & I suspect thats the most important part of the equation for most people vs the title implications. The fact there are 4 champions to begin with is more horrible for the sport than anything a fighter can do.

But I do think guys dropping belts over forced bs fights or other reasons, regardless of the bs way guys earn it...I mean a W over 40+ year old Mosley shouldn't get you a title shot lets be real, would be overall a good move for boxers to control the narrative of their own career more vs the often times alphabet controlled narrative that leads to so many fights that hold no appeal for the sport. Granted I am a fan of the alphabet groups when a mandatory gets a guy who's earned a shot a shot that he may not have otherwise gotten, but the problem lies for me in the fact that 50%+ of the time the mandatory isn't a guy who's realllllly earned his shot & he was just a guy who climbed the rankings with bs wins & got some bs eliminator & now is getting his bs shot at a world title belt.

I'm down. There are really good fights for Haymon to make at WW. Time to make them.

Who doesn't want Garcia? Everyone does. Even washed-up Morales wants a trilogy.

Thurman just fight a top WW. Danny should have to do the same and that winner fight Thurman.

Well said! The entire problem with Canelo vs. GGG, was created by the WBC. How does Cotto vacate the belt, then Canelo "earns" the belt, by beating Cotto @ 155? Canelo had NOT beaten even one MW! The fight was a CW fight! Canelo had NOT even fought even once at 160! People blame Canelo, but I blame the people who "crowned" Canelo in the first place! That's what destroys the sport! How does a guy become the mando for the WBA WW title, by beating Mosely in 2016? Out of all the top WWs, Spence Jr. is mandated to fight Bundu for a shot at the title? Bundu??? Really??? If Ponomarev couldn't fight Spence Jr., then Spence Jr. should be the mando for Brook...NOW!

Sure thing is Danny is probably the easiest fight with a title out there , so it would be in order for these guys to start unifying them and trying to get other contenders doing the right thing and fighting each other for the right......here's wishing!
