He was NUMBER 1 ranked at 154 as early as last Nov. That's a fact. He lost his ranking because he won a belt in another weight. Numerous fighters have been number 1 went to another weight and come back and retain their high ranking. Hell WBC already said the moment Canelo tells them which weight he is fighting at 154 or 160 he will automatically receive a high ranking. If he has a belt at 154 what possible case can you make that he doesn't deserve to be the number 1 ranked fighter? He has more top wins at 154 then anybody else there and ALREADY beat Lara who took the vacant number 1 ranking ONLY because Canelo lost it by beating Cotto.

I know the system ranks him highly. I'm questioning the validity of it. The only reason people rated him #1 at 154 was because they're idiots who don't know about weight classes......155 is middleweight. Canelo's last fight under 154 was a loss 2 years ago......but he was #1 doe.

I like Canelo, and felt he had built up a lot of good karma going after guys like Trout and Lara (regardless of whether or not you think he won those fights, it was a ballsy move to approve them).

However this is pretty indefensible, and not only washes away that karma but now has him turning heel. You call GGG into the ring, say you don't mess around and you'll put the gloves on 'tomorrow'.

Then you drop the WBC belt saying you don't need artificial timelines to negotiate this megafight (when you full well knew it was on the horizon the whole time)

Then you say Fall 2017!!! as you need time to acclimate to 160

Then you vacate the lineal title (so ****d at this point it's worthless IMO, but he did) so you can fight liam freakin smith. On PPV no less.
