By Cliff Rold - The news was not good. Last Saturday, fight fans got an interesting upset on national television when Joe Smith stopped light heavyweight contender Andrzej Fonfara in the first round. Too bad national television didn't tune in. One could look at this from a glass half full perspective...

They need to fallow the UFC structure. Best fighting the best, and pay them way less.

When they haf big name fights like guerrero_garcia and guerreo-thurman etc they should of took full advantage of undercards with prospects and/or action fights. Instead headliners with fu cking lara

This was my response earlier in a thread titled, "No excitement for Thurman Vs Porter"

The other Danny, Garcia, doesn't have any fight scheduled yet as well. There's no continuity. It's like watching most movies with no sequels.
PBC is just about watching random fights. There's no story to follow, Characters appear, then disappear.

This article is f.ucking garbage. How much time did the author waste of his life typing this

A boxing outfit willing to go out on a limb and give more access to fans with a chance of growing the sport is hurting it. Is this for real ?

No one was cheering when Lara / Zavexk got made but that garbage fight on ESPN was a better match up then anything FNF put on in how long. My bad the historic fight of Monroe / Vera was the stuff that makes legends, it gave Willie a chance to get destroyed against Gennady

Has one writer written on the public Executions that happen on HBO. I mean I know everyone stopped what they were doing to watch the epic match ups of
            GGG / Wade
            GGG / Monroe
            Kovalev / French Plumber
            Crawford / Jean
            Crawford / Lundy
            Ortiz / Thompson
Verdejo / anyone he's faced on HBO
Mayfield / forget the guys name
Chocolito / Anyone he's faced on HBo

Literally HBo serves up 75% sh.it unless it's PPV but it's just crickets like what upcoming fights have they announced
Ward / Brand = Birderline garbage
            Kov / Chilemba = Decent
            Fury / Klit = Good

their only great fight is PPV in Postol / Crawford

This is one of the problem with boxing , is the media they love to tear it down You wouldn't read any of this deprecating writing in the UFC, NBA, NHL with the reporters that cover the sport

Not saying the PBc is above critique , obviously some match ups suck balls, a more consistent schedule would Probably help, The production team could use some work but F.uck at least their trying to give fans competitive fights on a accessible platform.

The two key points that Cliff touched on are that there is no direction and lack of stars. Fights don't seem to lead to a certain goal. As he nicely put, boxing needs a 'what's next?' Thurman will face Porter, but is there a guarantee that the winner will face Brook or Garcia? We don't know that. That's what's missing. They lack build up.

But the most important reason for their lack of growth is that they have no star power. As deep of a roster as they have, it's like they can't build stars. You look at the ring magazine top 10 P4P list, the PBC doesn't have any of those fighters. When casuals tune into watch boxing, they want to see the the guy that's getting pushed, that's getting hyped up more than a good competitive fight. That's just the way it is. That's why fights like Golovkin-Wade, which are horrible mismatches, get really good ratings. But other more competitive fights on PBC do not. Right now they're just catering to the hardcore fans. They haven't been able to attach themselves to a fighter the way HBO has obviously attached itself to Golovkin.

Now the reason for that, you could make a case, is because the media hasn't been as friendly to them, or their fighters by association, and maybe that's been the reason why their fighters with star potential like Keith Thurman haven't reached Golovkin levels yet. But PBC is also not doing enough to promote him the way HBO and K2 promote Golovkin.

Good article. I like the mention of how there are elements within the press and the boxing establishment that were actively against PBC from the start.

Still, it's true that this doesn't excuse how PBC itself has dropped the ball in a lot of ways. From it's scheduling to it's production values to it's matchmaking.

I want to see them succeed but they need to identify and fix what's wrong. So far they haven't shown signs that they acknowledge any problems or are even responsive to fan feedback.

Boxing itself doesnt have figters fight the best. NFL forces the two best teams to play against each other in the Superbowl. NBA forces the two best teams to play in the NBA finals. The world cup Final is between the best two teams. Boxing doesnt have that force to make the two best boxer fight each other. That's the reason it keeps declining. Its an easy formula that they dont fallow. Make the boxers sing a contract and force them to box each other, the same way UFC does. Simple.

Honestly if you are a true Boxing fanatic, you'd be happy to watch any fights being televised
All this us and them mentality is detrimental to the sport of Boxing
