I'm more of a Kovalev fan than a Ward fan, but I'm actually picking Ward to win by a decisive 8-4 UD.
    Hmm very possible.

My main question is whether Ward can actually take a clean hit.. He will in the fight. Hopkins did and what happened? Ran into his shell and tries to survive all 12, hopefully Ward doesn't do this.

Ward isnt a 50 year old man......nor has he ever ran into a shell

Hopkins has before and never dealt with fighters his size well who could outwork him....people forget the man lost to Chad Dawson, and Jermain Taylor

Ward is just flat out better and hungrier than Hopkins at this stage

I'm not as concerned out the the power factor for 3 reasons: 1) An elite defensive fighter like Ward tightens things up vs a reputed puncher 2) Ward has not been dropped or buzzed since he was a prospect 3) Kovalev is not a one punch ko artist like Stevenson or GGG....He breaks you down with sharp shots over rounds like my man Chocolatito.

I think whoever can adjust mid fight the best wins this one.

If Kov can knock him out or beat Ward, he is # 1 p4p and bring on stevenson to clean up this mess at 175.

I will say Andre Ward continued the Great American tradition of chasing greatness.

I don't believe that. James Degale has said he wants to fight Ward, but Ward won't fight him.

Maybe HBO have a strategy to match Ward and Kovalev because the winner of that match will be a bigger name than either of them are going in to it.

But, at the end of the day, Ward doesn't need to do what HBO tell him to do. If he can still make the weight, he could have stayed at 168 and raised his profile via a different route than Kovalev, by going after the 168 title holders like DeGale. HBO wouldn't turn their noses up at him if he did that, rather than fighting Kovalev.

If the win is legit, you couldn't very well say anything else.

They wouldn't really care. Most of them are just trying to use Ward to hate on GGG. They'll hop bandwagons over to DeGale, or something, to beat GGG.

A clean win makes the winner (either of them) P4P #1. Most fans and probably all of the major ranking bodies feel this way.
