Great win for unheard of Joe Smith to make a name for himself. However, I didn't like the stoppage at all. Arguably the knockdowns were 'flash knockdowns' and the ref waived the fight instead of giving Fonfara the count after getting knocked down the second time.

Flash Knockdowns ??? Fonfara was hurt !!! Both guys were . But Fonfara let his guard down n went in for the kill . I agree with the other poster that said Smith was on his way out before catching Fonfara . Doubt any of his next opponents make the same mistake
Fonfara made .
Smith's stoppage of Fonfara has to be the upset of the year thus far. I don't think anybody posting here, myself included, expected Smith to win and definitely not win by ko. Props to Smith. He just put himself in to a higher tax bracket. His stoppage of Fonfara was impressive.

He obliterated him. Good stoppage.
Horrible stoppage. There wasn't a "two KD rule." Fonfara was hurt no doubt but should have been given the count instead of automatically calling it off. A lot of times an inexperienced ref will panic because of the brutality they're witnessing and as result call it off.
In this case, Fonfara should have been afforded the full count. I think you give a fighter a chance to beat the count and display that he's OK before calling a hault to it.
