Hell there is a chance it did worse ratings. So how do you justify HBO paying more money for him? If he gets more money that doesn't leave much left to pay for his opponent or fill an undercard and that's the problem. And any PPV that Loma headlines will be a financial disaster nobody is paying for that.

If Arum overpaid Loma with a ****** contract that gave him bloated guarantees for purses then that's his problem. Have Arum pay the extra money out of his own pockets. Based on the number of fans Loma draws to an arena and the viewers he draws he is not worth the money.
I think Arum is paying Loma so much NOW, because he doesn't want to lose him in the future. Loma will be like Manny, indebted to Arum for the entirety of his career.

I'm with Arum here, with this sport being so brutal I will never ever tell a fighter to take less just so that he can take a fight I want to see. These guys should be paid well especially since in this sport any fight can be their very last. So yes Loma was overpaid coming into the Martinez fight but he also showed exactly WHY he gets paid the big bucks he is a SPECIAL FIGHTER!

Arum is still THE BEST in the business at building up new stars it is not even close really. Loma doesn't have to become a "Crossover Superstar" to become a great fighter, not sure why some fans feel that is so important that fighter must make Pacquiao and Mayweather type of money, that is not going to happen for any of these fighters anytime soon. Fans want guys to become Superstars and Draws overnight and it is not going to happen. Grabbing the attention of Casuals as well as Mainstream Media take YEARS and unfortunately many will never reach that level. Many of the greats wasn't a Big Draw or Crossover Superstars

Distinction.. Chavez was Mexican with a giant rabid fanbase. Russians et al are bad fanatical as Mexican and Puerto Rican fans are.

The economics just don't work. HBO is trying to make money. They're not in the business of paying people what a promoter and a few delusional fanboys think a fighter is worth. That's just not how the world works.

You don't get paid because you are a special talent. History has shown over and over that small fighters don't get paid that much no matter how special they are. History has also shown exciting fighters with large fanbases get paid more then fighters who don't have these traits but are more "special". Loma's size and the fact that he doesn't have any real fanbase to speak of limits the amount of money he is worth.

Unless Arum wants to overpay out his own pocket why should a network pay him more risking the event LOSING money? Only way to pay Loma is either Arum loses money or HBO loses money that's just the facts. And it has nothing to do with how talented he is that's not up for debate. You pay him based on what he generates in tickets sales and tv ratings which is very limited compared to fighters who get paid less but generated more fans and ratings. Him needing more money means it's going to be almost impossible to get him better fights because the money doesn't exist.
