more iconic?
it is not close. it's ali.
i think you can argue the resumes, because ali's got a f#cking staggering record. two losses while he was what i call "at or around his best." basically had two careers. basically untouchable in the 60's, and a genuine, all time talent. maybe the most talented athlete ever. in the 70's he slowed a step, and then another, and then another, and he still went down as the best fighter in the best ever era at HW, boxing's glamor division.
ali's resume doesn't even look real. have a loot at it for yourself. it is just staggering. boxers shouldn't have to do that. they don't do it now, and they won't be doing it in the future. you don't need to do that to your body.

Ray robinson is the best p4p
Johnson dempsey and pep and joe louis were the first superstars in boxing in america took boxing mainstream by radio and newspaper
Ray robinson became a superstar and took boxing to a higher place mainstream world wide with live fights on radio and television.
Ali took boxing to even higher place mainstream world wide on television along with his charisma and political ways during segregationComment

This has nothing to do with media coverage. Who is more iconic? That is the topic. You talk about "lost". Hahaha, that's ironic. You don't even know what the topic of this thread is. IF this and IF that .....IF isn't reality. IF Manny Pacquaio KO'd Mayweather back in 2010 he would be considered the greatest of all time. IF IF IF........Comment

The question that the OP of this thread is asking IS - Who is the bigger icon in boxing history ALI or SRR? The question IS NOT - Who do you think was the greater fighter?
SRR was great but how can he be considered anywhere near the iconic status of Ali? I'm not the biggest Mohammed Ali fan....he had his flaws too BUT he is easily THE most iconic boxer and sports figure in history.Comment
