Ali is considered by the fans to be the biggest legend in boxing!
The Heavyweight Champ often gains laurels that others can't attain.
If you've read anything about Ali's feelings towards Sugar Ray you'd know that
Ali idolized him and copied many of Sugars methods.

Ali is the Greatest Ever...................Sugar Ray is the best pure boxer/puncher

Their are no fighters today that bring the intrigue and excitement that the greats generated. Today you hope its a good fight back in their day you KNEW
it was going to burn the joint down!

    R.I.P Champion!

It's not even close. Ali blows SRR and any other athlete out of the water. The only ones that may actually have come close are Jordan, Maradona, Pele. Imagine Ali with social media back in the day, it would have been NUTSSSSS.

SRR sadly isn't even known by a lot of so-called Boxing fans. Ali is known by all, young/old, hardcore/casual....you can't watch Boxing and not know who Ali is.

            Ali and isn't even close

most people dont even know who Robinson is

if you ask a bunch of random people on the streets and show them pics of SRR and Ali and ask them who they are, you can be sure some of them will identify Ali. NOBODY will identify SRR unless they're hardcore boxing fans

I can't think of a single sports figure in history that is more iconic that Ali. Most people have never even heard of Sugar Ray Robinson. Mike Tyson, Manny Pacquaio, Floyd Mayweather and Oscar Delahoya are probably better known than SRR. Mike Tyson is definitely better known throughout the world. However, this iconic status doesn't make Ali the greatest fighter ever. It's ridiculous to give any fighter that title. Ali could be defeated the same as any other fighter...and he was beat on more than one occasion. There's no shame in being defeated if you fought all the top opponents of your era. He was a great fighter.

All of these fighters fought in the TV era except Robinson. Everyone had a TV when Ali was fighting. None of this changes the fact that Ali is more iconic than Robinson. Sugar Ray Robinson could be 10 times the fighter Ali was but that doesn't mean ***** as far as iconic status is concerned. Ali is the most iconic boxer of all time whether we like it or not. BUT, that doesn't mean he was a better fighter than Sugar Ray Robinson.
