Had he been more forthright and honest with the situation, I wouldnt be inclined to say so, but he very publicly said he would fight Golovkin.
Canelo could have opted not to fight for the belt when Cotto was stripped. He could have vacated after the Cotto win. He could have vacated in January when the negotiations were taking place. He could have vacated immediately after he KOed Khan, but he didn't. He signed his name to a contract saying he would fight Golovkin, then verbally on more than one occasion, said he would fight Golovkin (even quantifying it at 160). He needs to honor his word as a man.
