Up until 5 years ago Canelo was a welterweight. In his teens fought at 140. GGG as amateur in his teens fought at 154 and when he turned 20 fought at 160 as an amateur and has literally been a middleweight ever since. Canelo has never weighed more then 155 and in their last 2 fights GGG weighed more at his 30 day weigh in then Canelo did.

Fact is Canelo has never weighed 160 or fought a 160lb fighter and doesn't have to do so just because GGG the B side asks him to. Now that there is no belt involved it's just a normal fight between 2 fighters one has refused to venture above or below 160 where all the better fighters and bigger paydays are. The other has moved up and down in weight to make big fights and is now the biggest draw in boxing. Why does Canelo need to move to 160 just because GGG says so? The fight will be on Canelo's terms and once GGG get's that he will move down in weight just like he said he would for Floyd and Manny. Or he can keep fighting bums like Wade.

He's looked fresh in each of his last 3 weighins if he had to drain that last pound for a title fight he could. Trout last 3 fights before charlo were at 156 or 157. since he was not belt holder and is with haymon so he doesn't need any title eliminator to get a title shot. Trout went 2 years without actually weighing 154 yet nobody is dumb enough to call him a middleweight and as soon as he needed to make 154 for a title fight he did.

Lie lara fight was negotiated at 155 from day one he didn't miss weight. You thinking about angulo fight which was his first fight back in a non title fight where he didn't care about making weight. Lemiuex blew off his weight in his come back fight early this year does that mean he's not a middleweight? No it means he don't care about weight in non title fights he's fought a few pounds over 160 tons of times but if he has to he will make 160 for a title. Canelo made weight for all title defenses at 154. Just like trout made weight for his title defenses and before Charlo spent 2 years fighting higher then canelo at 156 and 157 in NON TITLE fights then cut weight when he got his title shot a few weeks ago. Trout ain't no middleweight either and actually walks around heavier then canelo between fights.
