Oscar was fighting THE undisputed middleweight champion, being out done in height and reach.
Floyd was fighting his 3rd fight at the weight and was only now demanding a catchweight. These are two different things entirely. Plus Floyd is taller and has a longer reach than Canelo.
But keep living in dream land.Comment

Mexican boxing fans, what y'all think of the B.S.(BoxingScene)obsession with Canelo and Mexicans tho? It's forgivable but have fun with it(at their expense), never make decisons while angry. B.S.(BoxingScene) in da house---->----->------->Former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. has advised his countryman, Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez to request a catch-weight of 158-pounds for a proposed fight with WBA/IBO/WBA/IBF middleweight king Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin.

I don't know if the Casino I went to had a TON of $$$$$ bet on GGG or what but GGG was favored by -1800. So basically for every $100 I bet I would of won $5 and fifty cents. Is he saying that people were giving Lemieux a chance to win? Id like to see a comparison of the betting lines on the two fights. I can only imagine that the odds makers viewed both bouts as equally non competitive. Most people I spoke to gave Lemieux little to no chance of winning.
Edit: the numbers do not support Mr Lotierzo's assumption. A quick glance at the betting lines suggest that Alvarez-Khan was viewed as more competitive than Golovkin-Lemieux.
Golovkin: -1400
Lemieux: +1100
Alvarez: -500
Khan: +350
(both figures taken from Bloody Left Elbow)
In probabilities that = GGG had a 95% chance of winning.
Once I saw that I didn't buy the GGG/Lemuix fight. Even though all these GGG fans hyped that fight up like it was going to be fight of the year. I'm still glad I didn't.
I did buy Khan/Canelo which started out as a 3/1 favorite giving Khan a 25% probability chance of winning...Comment

Catchweights have been around for a long time, it's an argument I make a lot. Which is why there is nothing wrong with them...as long as they are between guys moving up in weight facing someone bigger.
Mayweather was a 2 time champion in his own weight division asking Canelo to climb down in weight. You can deny that if you like but even if Mayweather didn't start the trend, he popularised it on a mass scale.Comment
