Well, I hate to be nitpicking, but middleweight is anything below or equal to 160lbs. There is no minimum. Cotto was 153 during his fight with Canelo.

Any weight below the maximum is valid for a middleweight fight. Floyd and Maidana weighed 147 for a jr middleweight championship fight.

Where I have issue, is the situation where fighters limit their opponents weight, not just their own. Sanctioning bodies should not recognise catchweight fights valid for their championships. If a fighter wants to weigh below the maximum, thats fine... there can be advantages to that. Manny Pacquiao looked his best at around 144-145lb. But limiting your opponents weight shouldn't be allowed
