“I can tell you that any reports … that there are interim fights being discussed is completely false,” Loeffler told The Times on Tuesday. “We have made it clear to Golden Boy and the WBC that there would be no interim fights or extensions to the purse bid. … Canelo got one interim fight. Now he needs to fight Triple G.”

If GGG wants the prestige and name on his record, he has to cave on some stuff, we know that... It's always been this way and will continue to be when one guy is the face of boxing.... GGG can make the weight and win, he should take the risk...

Of course they would've gotten an extension.
All they had to do by May 24th was say that they want the fight. Thats it.
Then there would be a 30 day official negotiation period which would be even easier to get an extension on because of the understandable complexities of making a huge ppv fight.
Also, this fight would have never gone to a purse bid. K2 understood that Golovkin wasn't going to get 45% and was fine with that. Every promoter that has worked with Loeffler has said that he has been easy to make a deal with.
This move will backfire on Canelo, horribly. It was not well thought out...just defiant.Last edited by PK3434; 05-19-2016, 02:06 PM.

Originally posted by about.thousands View PostNope, they sure didn't. Just follow the timeline of events. K2 and GBP said they wouldn't negotiate in the media. Then there was that fight hype article stating Canelo/GBP were asking for 2-3 interim fights. Everybody said they were crazy. Then the WBC came out and said that's not going to happen. They're confident both sides will come to an agreement and the fight will happen. And they reiterated that the purse bid is set for the 24th. Then Loeffler came out and said no more interim fights.
On the same day Mannix says they haven't met each other face to face. How would he know that? Somebody from K2 leaked it to him because they knew Canelo and GBP weren't negotiating in good faith. And then the next day Canelo vacates. They were never serious about making this fight. Canelo says dropping the belt will get rid of artificial deadlines and they can continue negotiations. But why would he drop his most important bargaining chip?
