I understand your point. I just think HBO could have done what Dana White did with McGregor.

They surely will not sell as much UFC 200 as they would otherwise. But by putting his foot donw and replacing Connor with Jones, the best UFC fighter (beside the FW guy who may also fight on the card) in with his best opponent, he retained the integrity of the brand, which will keep long term sales strong.

    Canelo isn't bigger than HBO.
That's the problem with boxing, the individuals on the level of Floyd,Manny, and now Canelo, become bigger than the sport itself and they dictate everything. I hate UFC but you can always count on the best fighting the best in a timely fashion. In a perfect world the PBC could have made itself into something of that sort but it didn't work out that way and great fights were still far and few between. Boxing is about the individual stars more than the sport and the UFC Is all about the brand with stars coming and going...

Same time i dont think ME will want to give Ward that advantage

Sadly, I can see this fight going to Vegas. I agree neither sell that big so maybe they will be hoping fans see this for the big fight it is.

      time will tell
Well for your sake I hope it's in Oakland and you get to attend live...
Kovalev did say after wards fight that he would come to his home town to fight him so who knows. He did it for Pascal without any issues..as long as the judges are from Vegas or anywhere but California they should be gtg..

Floyd and Manny were bigger than the sport. Canelo isn't in any way. Canelo is the cash cow right now, no question. That doesn't make him Floyd, Manny, Tyson or ODH.

Agreed. All this is going to backfire on Canelo regardless of what GBPs agenda is. I believe he makes 155lbs unhealthy all the time.

Now what'll really send Team Canelo and GBP up ****'s creek is if fighters starting rejecting Canelo offers. Canelo gets his way in negotiations...now that the jigg is up...fighters might start turning the other cheeks or demanding more in their favor.
