Canelo- GGG should have been like Ward-Kovalev

They should have set a date for May-September of 2017 ahead of time. Canelo could have fought Stevens at 157-158, then Lemeiux at the full 160. Meanwhile, GGG beats Saunders and Jacobs to become unified champ. All of the big talk from Canelo and now him dropping the title has made him look bad. He's fought guys he didn't have to in Trout and Lara when GBP didn't want him to and I'm sure he'd fight GGG as well but GB knows better this time...

We are all looking forward to the Ward-Kovalev fight and honestly we don't even care who they're fighting this summer because we know what's on the horizon. It could have been the same with Canelo-GGG.

Then HBO would risk losing canelo with that. Canelo thinks he runs shlt so he would have left HBO in a heartbeat if they tried that

I'm with you. They could have made so many great fights and instead they're screwing around.

Maybe but what's out there for Canelo? If he plans on fighting on PPV from here out, there's nobody left to sell.. Khan was a reach for just a name, we all knew how that fight was gonna end. Bradley? Pac? There's really nobody but tiny little guys to drag up to fight him.. I know Stevens and Lemeuix are no superstars but at least we'd know the date GGG and Canelo would be fighting and we'd overlook the weakness of the competition just based on the big fight looming...

ward and kovalev aren't draws so they were basically forced to fight each other. canelo can fight anyone he wants and he chooses not to fight ggg. same way floy ducked dangerous fighters for years. there was nothing making him fight.

            A couple problems with that:

            1. Canelo doesn't want the fight. They've already agreed to make it happen in the past and every time he backs out. Vacating his title was a new low, but not a new pattern.

            2. Lemeiux or Stevens would probably stop him before he ever made it to GGG.

They had something similar in that after the Cotto fight, they agreed to fight each other later in the year after each has a fight. They both won their fights but of course Canelo pussied out.

They would have been the same only that they are big fights but i consider Ward/Kov to be far more talented fighters and IMO a much much better fight.

                Winner is #1

But i get what you mean about scheduling it ahead of time but at the same time if 1 loses then you get a Floyd/Judah scenario

You have a point but Who's Canelo have to fight at this point? They were talking about fking Rosado at one point before Khan came along...it's slim picking for GBP...
I think Canelo would fight GGG but GBP is not gonna let it happen because it's their only big name fighter

Yep! Don't know how people don't remember this. He agreed to fight GGG twice. When he signed to fight Cotto he agreed that if he won he'd fight GGG next. After he beat Cotto he came to an agreement that he'd have one interim fight and fight GGG next. He lied twice. How anybody can try to spin this as anything other than duck?
