This is what I don't get with the level of critism he receives. He was going after Paul Williams (a man that everybody said nobody wanted to fight) until he had his tragic accident. When he pursued Cotto who took a loss to Trout and scuppered the fight. Alvarez did the right thing and fought the man that beat the man that he wanted to get in with. Not many would have done that. Especially not against Trout. Then he goes against his promoters wishes and steps in there with Lara.

The kid is clearly willing to fight. I'm not saying that the way him and his team go about that is beyond reproach because it isn't but at times people act as if he's the worst thing in boxing.

With the public on his side, and now Canelo's title as well, he Golovkin won't be pressured to make the fight and he'll be 'allowed' to fight the Wade's of the world because it will be perceived as Canelo ducking him so he was left with no choice.

The pressure is now all on Canelo to make the fight. If the fight doesn't go down, he'll be blamed for it and he'll take a hit to his reputation.

Golovkin also has more options than Canelo. He can actually fight other MW's. Such as Danny Jacobs unification at MSG, BJS fight down the road etc.

Canelo is running out of options. It's basically a Cotto rematch or bust. Otherwise he'll have to drain MW's to come down and fight him and I'm not sure any of GBP's MW's can cut down to 155.
