  • Do you consider Óscar de la Hoya a boxing legend?

Based on his wins and losses.

A friend told me that he lost in his most important fights, however he won against Chávez, Whitaker, Camacho, Mayorga...

On the other hand he could not win Pacquiao, Hopkins, Mayweather, Mosley (twice).

Where do you put De La Hoya?

No, not by any means. No where near the level of a Chavez Sr.

He was barely even considered an "elite" fighter at his peak.

He was a very good fighter but vastly overrated. He didn't live up to his full potential. With that said, he was one of the best fighters of the last 20 years but definitely not a legend.

Idk man it depends on your definition of legend. I'm not a big fan of that term usually for anyone, but I think with Oscar's backstory (223-5, 150+ KO's as amateur + won the gold medal for his dead mom), was the first non-HW PPV star, won titles in multi divisions, fought all comers, etc & so on I think you could easily use legend in reference to Oscar.

he wasnt going to ever beat pacquiao, or mayweather at the tail end of his career, especially when he was a part time fighter.

i always felt that trinidad fight really changed him as a fighter. had he gotten the nod, he would've probably been a different fighter and not gone balls to the walls against mosley...mosley 2 should've also been given to him.

i will say this, dude really did fight everybody

Olympic gold medalist, fought everybody as a pro, first boxer to start a successful promotional company.

I think he qualifies as a legend of the sport.
