Long didnt want to fight. Most of that punch hit him on the shoulder and he had already tasted enough of Peter's power to know he didnt want to be in there any more.

if I was a heavyweight boxer's manager I'd duck Peter

The shot Foreman hit Moorer with didn't look brutal either but it knocked him out. You have to realize that Peter's just as heavy handed as Foreman was. He is a freak of punching power with incredible muscle density.

Let's put it this way: if a mack truck hits you at only 10 mph, it's still going to knock you over and break some bones.
If I was the manager of a heavyweight boxer today I would look to duck Sam Peter. Not only does he have great power, he sometimes hits guys on the back of their head or when they're down, although he's not looking to foul. He's just aggressive and savage in the ring. The knockout blow against Long was borderline a huge rabbit punch, although Long was ducking and leaning way back on the ropes before the punch was thrown. It was not a foul but close enough that it looked crude and I felt uncomfortable. Long could have been seriously hurt. To be fair though it should be remembered that Floyd Patterson landed similar blows on Ingemar Johansson in their 3rd bout.

In any case I remember Ike Ibeabuchi and he was better than Sam Peter, although not any more powerful. Something tells me that Sam Peter is never going to look elegant or graceful in there.

I agree but I'm not sure about Long's manager

I say good for Long, he had the balls to get in there with a real slugger and it takes a real man to get in the ring and fight a monster like Sam Peter

I agree but I'm not sure about Long's manager, who put his man in there as cannon fodder for a big puncher. I had a bad feeling about that fight even before it happened. I saw Julius Long against Terry Smith last year, and Long doesn't stick and move or use his long reach much at all. In spite of his height he really likes to ****, move forward and work guys over on the ropes. Teddy Atlas said the same thing right before the bout. Teddy said that Long's only chance was to start out slugging with Peter and hope to get lucky. That's no way to fight if you're a young guy who might have a future in boxing. Long's a big guy but he's not really that durable and should be matched against guys that don't hit so hard. If he fights any more guys like Sam Peter his career in boxing is over.

Julius Long is the worst joke I have ever seen put on a pair of gloves. This guy should not be in the ring at anytime against anyone. If his sole purpose of existance is to make others look like the greatest heavyweights of this era, he will die in the ring one day. I cannot believe any commission even allows this guy to enter a ring. He looked like a little girl out there.
