One of those "smart people around him" was Ariza, whom Robert eventually fired and blamed for Mikey's long layoff. Ariza hates Arum, so he succeeded in convincing Mikey to leave the old man and join Haymon/Floyd.

I was thinking more along the lines of his pedigree - particularly his father, Eduardo, who seems really old school, and smart.

Then of course Robert who has probably seen many top boxers he's trained deal with all the various promoters, so he knows who is getting treated best, etc.

Of course I'm sure it varies from fighter to fighter with each promoter.

Just based on what I've seen, in my limited time following hte sport (hardcore) for a little over a decade, it seems like Arum's boxers, if they perform accordingly, come out the best. Arum may be greedy, and out to make as much money as he can off boxers, but at the same time, to accomplish this, he also gets his boxers paid, and paid handsomely, and consistently.

with the exception of Floyd himself, and Canelo under Oscar, Arum has made the most money for his boxers on the most consistent basis it would seem...

Even Floyd, and Oscar, who eventually got big enough to go solo, started out faithfully, and dedicated to Top Rank for majority of their careers.

I mean look how much Arum made JCC Jr.? And how limited of a talent he actually was (how much better he could have been fully dedicated? who knows? I still think he was never meant to be true world class material).

That was a brilliant piece of promoting and business by the old man.

I wouldn't wanna speculate too much about why certain en****** get caught or don't get caught cuz there is so much unknown out there with that sorta stuff it could turn into some goofy ass 2009 Floyd vs Manny argument fast I bet lol. I could easily see there being a method of gaming the system with PEDs or PED testing doe. I mean just reading about that RUSADA thing recently suggests its plausible this sort of stuff could be going on at a equal or lesser level in boxing (& other sports) right now as we speak & they just haven't been discovered.

I know if I was a promoter or manager & I saw all these guys getting called cheaters & having people turn against them over PED stuff or even PED rumors I'd probably implement an in-house PED testing program that I'd keep as private as possible. If one of my guys pisses dirty I either suspend him myself privately & say he injured his hand or something if he had a fight coming up or if I'm a lil more sketchy I test him til he comes up negative so he can still fight or we need to cancel closer to the fight if he won't be able to pass the commission test.
Aye - you're right - he did indeed get popped for diuretics. They are known for helping suck a lot of weight, really quick, and for masking PEDs.

It makes perfect sense Chavez would get pinched using diuretics, as he dried himself out to the extreme to make 160. Heh, drained every speck of water out of every cell in his body I bet.

Yeah - god please don't want another dumbass fiasco like that circa 2009... Those were some of the worst years in boxing, 2009-2012, mainly because of all the fake fans it brought.

And I would do exactly that as well - make htem sign contracts and agree to private in-house testing - saying both parties must keep silent about any results. Being the savvy lawyer Arum is, wouldn't be surprised if he actually does have something similar to that concept implemented.

Hope he takes his time, he is still 28 which is a good age to be hitting your prime years, he need to ease himself back into boxing again.

Chavez JR had all the tools minus his daddy's heart!

I like Mikey Garcia! Get back in there and do what you do! You are still young but the clock is ticking!

Nah, he didn't have the foot speed his dad did... Nor the overall, general "boxing brain."

Chavez was a lot more nuanced, and clever, and skilled than a straight-forward inside fighter/brawler. He was a skilled in-fighter.

He still had enough of his dad's natural skills to be a solid boxer, but nothing close to special.

Seems GBP has no interest in signing Mikey.
