During that same period Team GGG were still saying they'd fight Froch or Floyd. So they were willing to give up the mando spot for Froch or Floyd? Continuing for the sake of argument....If you say yes, because those are big money fights, then you'd have to agree that K2 has been lying about unification being the main goal, right? They've repeatedly said unification is the main goal but would move up/down for a big fight. Going by your statement that moving up or down would remove him from the mando spot (which is a lie) that would mean unification isn't the main goal, right?
There's a interview with Froch from the time of the Lemieux fight basically saying that team GGG weren't really interested anymore either at 168 or 172. Carl's impression was that their plans were for Canelo / Cotto possibly at a CW which pretty much gels with their approach to the Ward proposal.

Yeah... sure I guess they could have banked on getting Canelo early this year possibly at a CW then tried to jump up to 168 for Ward later in the year... do you think that woulda been smart?

Don't know whether he would have been stripped of his mando status for moving up to 168 - maybe, maybe not, but my impression is the WBC wouldn't need much excuse. Who knows? - I could be wrong.

And Floyd? Yeah, pretty sure that Golovkin would probably drop his mando status to get a FMJ fight. Like 99% of other fighters he'd probably be willing to cut off his fists if necessary.

Is it too much to imagine that a team might have multiple goals, (as they have stated) and that sometimes they have to pick one over another. In Loefflers shoes would you have chosen to put GGG in with Ward - whether or not you thought you were likely to win - or go gunning for the Canelo / Cotto mandatory?

Ward didn't make any sense & if Ward was in GGG's spot & the situation was flipped it wouldn't have made any sense for Ward to move up either. The names involved don't really matter unless you are fanboying. When you are as close as GGG is to a fight with the biggest name in the sport you don't move away from that spot to fight a guy virtually no one cares about outside of Oakland, CA.

Ward was a squirrel that needed a nut. GGG already has the biggest nut in his sights. Why would you go chasing a smaller nut silly fanyboy momos?
Great comment as usual, those facts will be ducked by SOG nuthuggers.

You can misconstrue it as fear/ducking if it feeds your Golovkin-hating agenda.

Dude, the post you quoted clearly explains why he doesn't talk about him. Ward pissed him off with his antics and Golovkin said he's dead to him.
Why the hell should he talk about him? This isn't a children's playground.
He could care less about Ward or his 85 Oaklandite fans. He would have caught up with a running for his life Ward within 8 rds and KO his butt anyway.

Right. With Andre Ward, nothing is ever straightforward.

"I want to fight Golovkin ... not yet doe ... sometime next year ... after we both have a couple of interim fights"

"Golovkin don't want none, so now I'm gonna dare to be great, move up and fight Kovalev at 175 ... not yet doe ... I still need a couple of tune ups ... not sure when I'll be ready ..."

Now since Ward claims he knew nothing of the Lemieux fight when he sent the offer, it stands to reason that the Lemieux fight would count as GGG's "1 interim fight". I suspect we can agree on everything up to this point, yes?

Now had GGG taken this deal and signed the contract, immediately after Cotto-Canelo had concluded, GBP is smart enough to have immediately notified the WBC that they were ready to begin negotiations for their mandatory defense with GGG. "Oh, GGG is unavailable because he's contracturally obligated to a Ward fight? My my, how unfortunate, I guess he has to get stripped of the interim title then. How sad".

And since an IBF mando was due immediately after the Lemieux fight, and can only be bumped for a unification, he would have been stripped of the IBF belt because a Ward fight is not a unification.

And he gives all this up just for a Ward fight, that assuming Ward doesnt pull out with an injury or lawsuit, isnt even a big money fight??

Cmon man, this isnt rocket science.
                    Absolutely spot on
