How is it irrational? People wanna talk about GGG and Kovalev as ATGs. Yet, the same people are afraid for them to to the same things that ATGs did. I laid out a laundry list of names. Some of them ATGs, but most of them not. That had success at cruiserweight and/or heavyweight coming from light heavy and lower. Yet its unimaginable that Kovalev even makes ths attempt. Which one is it? Is he a great fighter or nah? Because from where I'm sitting, his biggest supporters don't seem to have faith in him being able to do what a lotta good and great fighters before him had success doing.

Floyd only fought at 35 and 40 for like three years. I think he struggled a bit to make 30 at the end of his reign there. But the move from 35 to 40 was to chase a PPV fight with Gatti. Floyd legitimately could have been fighting at 140 when he fought DLH at 54. And for guys that small, that's a pretty significant jump in weight.
As for the guys I named that had success. Byrd was a beltholder, actually beat Vitali Klitschko. Or at least has an official win over him. Toney had victories over guys like Ruiz and Rahman that were later overturned. He also beat a diminished version of Holyfield. He also won the legitimate cruiserweight title. Adamek beat Arreola. He also had a very good run at cruiserweight. So it can be done. Kovalev isn't as good as guys like Jones and Toney. I'd probably rate him slightly lower than Holyfield and Moorer, maybe even. But he certainly a better fighter than Byrd and Adamek were. So if they can do it, why can't he?Comment

hopefully he can, i am not arguing that he shouldn't i just don't see why everyone is up in arms always saying these guys could do it why can't he... some fighters made history fighting in the same division, some made history moving up. We aren't the ones going into the ring and getting punched in the face and we should respect a fighters decision to try and be best in their own division, as we should respect a fighter for moving up and fighting in a higher division... we don't have the right to **** on that.Comment

Both guys have no reason not to want to secure a win over each other. A win over each other could catapult themselves into boxing greatness.
Edit: Wrong topic. Kovalev shouldn't move to Heavyweight. Cruiserweight, sure.
But he still has Stevenson, Ward, and others to sweep up firstLast edited by SlySlickSmooth; 05-10-2016, 01:56 PM.Comment

The last one was RJ and he fought a small heavyweight by today's standards. Bob Foster and Ezzard Charles weren't trying to fight 6'6" 250lb very athletic men and there have been alot of reasons named in this very thread why there is no reason for Kovalev to move up. There is an abundance of talent at LHW. Why do you want him to move up so bad? If the man likes his weight class what is it to you?Comment

Likewise, I fail to see this abundance of talent that you see in the light heavyweight division. I'm not nearly as annoyed with Kovalev for not wanting to move up as I am GGG. Because the jump is bigger. And unlike GGG, Kovalev doesn't have a habit of calling out smaller guys and declining to fight bigger ones. He really never even showed a public interest in Ward until Ward made the official jump to light heavy. So I respect Kovalev, unlike GGG. That said, eventually, I'd like to see him try his luck at cruiserweight and even heavyweight. I'd pick Kovalev to beat every cruiserweight beltholder. And I'd be very tempted to pick him against a lotta top heavyweights out there. His fans need to stop being scared. Dude can fight. It would be move to see him dare to be great.Comment
