Could Calzaghe have got to 50-0?

There were no star names in his division or at light heavy. It's why he went after name recognition like Jones and Bhop.I am trying to remember the lay of the land at the time.
I think Dawson was the one guy mentioned. Nobody really cares that they never saw that. But Pavlik at one time made perfect sense and would have put money in his pocket.
And you never know whether a Froch fight might have turned into Froch/Groves scenario. 80,000 people at Wembley and all that.
Not sure Joe really maximised his earning potential. I know we shouldn't care about that but he probably should.
However, at the time, the Pavlik fight seemed a dream, nowhere close to reality. His only move up from was to get whooped by Hopkins. And then he spent another year at 160 before Sergio cut him up. In real terms, tha tfight was never a possibility.
In terms of my scenario of Joe carrying on, yes it could have happened. Then again, I'm not sure if Pavlik would have liked the idea of moving up again and getting whooped but it would def have been 47-0 for Calzaghe.Comment

A fight with Pavlik could have happened. Read my previous post. Of course Kelly wouldn't have moved up to fight Joe after he'd been embarrassed by Bernard. That's obvious. But he really wanted to fight Joe before he fought Bernard. You have to remember that Roy and Joe were scheduled to fight in the summer of 2008, until Joe got injured and the fight was postponed. Joe initially agreed to fight Roy around May time after he'd fought Bernard. So had he have wanted to, he could have agreed to fight Kelly months before Kelly and Bernard agreed to fight each other. It could have happened, but again, Joe didn't want it, despite Frank W claiming that it would have been a much more lucrative fight than the one with Roy.There were no star names in his division or at light heavy. Sure if he fought nothing but cans. But let's be honest, when Joe retired he was severely washed and shot to bits. It was as clear as day imo.Comment

That's a very narrow time frame and Warren was probably chatting **** because of the disputes he and Joe had by that point. It just isn't the type of fight that was 100% feasible so Joe couldn't have avoided something like that.A fight with Pavlik could have happened. Read my previous post. Frank W wasn't chatting ****, because Kelly was big news at the time and Roy was faded. The PPV was a flop.
Why wasn't it feasible? What do you mean by that? Joe did avoid the fight. I've told you what his comments were.
I can post you some links if you like.
That fight could definitely have happened had Joe have been open to it.
The truth is, he cashed in the chips and massaged his ego against a legend of boxing who offered a minimal threat to him. He'd already said the previous year that Roy was washed up and a fight would be pointless.
If he'd have been motivated with better hands, he definitely could have got to 50-0. But again, it wouldn't have been against the likes of Pavlik, Dawson and Tarver etc.Last edited by robertzimmerman; 05-12-2016, 12:24 PM.Comment
