Canelo will do this to GGG in a catchweight fight
Can GGG make 155lbs healthily?

The facts, Triple G is willing to make 154 for floyd so there's your answer...I understand all the A side politics Canelo is using to his advantage & while I sorta hate that boxing is such a circus that those types of things go on I understand that is how boxing works so it is what it is. The question I have is can GGG even make 155lbs despite the previous claim about being willing to fight anyone from 154-168. I understand people wanna be all "in you face" when people in boxing or in life say things they can't back up, but outside of the much discussed claim do you legit think GGG can make 155lbs?
The facts:
GGG turned pro in 2006 at the age of 24.
His lowest weight as a pro was 158.5 in 2011 @ 29yrs
He is currently 34yrs
From 2003-2005 (21yrs-23yrs) he fought as an amateur in the 165lb division
The last time he likely fought at 155lbs was in 2002 (20yrs) when he fought amateur in the 156lb division
So its a reasonable assumption based on this info GGG hasn't been at or under 155 for 14yrs as a 20 year old.Comment

You know what, I think he should do it the more I think about it. You're not the A-Side and with him already 34 years old how much time does he have? This is how boxing always been, you do whatever the A-Side wants to not only get the biggest payday of your career but for the opportunity to get on that grand stage in front of a lot of people to become the new A-Side.
Call His Bluff! Agree to 155 or counter with 157! But trying to stand firm on 160 is laugh, he is not in position to try and force Canelo to fight at 160. Blame yourself blame your big mouth Trainer for Running around saying that you will go down to 154 for Mayweather, you're basically admitting that you can make 155 if you want
the IDIOTS around GGG like Abel Sanchez are making him lose any type of leverage in negotiations every time he opens his mouth
Canelo himself just submitted to Cotto and gave him everything he wanted just to get him in the ring. Why does GGG get a pass? I somewhat agree with what B-Hop being saying as of late after really thinking about itLast edited by sicko; 05-07-2016, 02:00 PM.Comment

IDK. Macklin has a similar build to Golovkin and he made 154lbs for one fight and felt weak. Same thing with Andy Lee, one fight and he struggled with his strength. It took Mundine a couple years to eventually move down from 160 to 154, but after that he was fine.
However, I think if Golovkin was working with a nutritionist like Mike Dolce or George Lockhart, then there'd be no issue and he could make it and return full strength.
Bottom line, Golovkin's entire pro-career has been within 3lbs, which in itself is unseen. I think making 154lbs would be an initial shock on him the first time or two and he would need acclimation to be at full strength there (unless he was working with someone like Dolce or Lockhart).Comment

If GBP are serious about making the fight then they will probably give up a pound or two for points on the PPV take. And of course K2 will have the same mindset. Neither side is going to give up points on a PPV before they even sit down to negotiate.
There's no way they can know if GGG can make 155 healthy when he hasn't actually done it. The fact that he can make 160 comfortably is encouraging, but they are going into unknown territory.Comment

it's simple.........if golovkin wanted mayweather all he had to do was fight ward and beat him. (he then hits the jack pot) for canelo just agree to 155. these things are pretty clear if u ask me. you see, the problem is golovkin doesn't bring any amount of money and he's fought no one. i mean 0. so telling a guy like that to do something first is not out of the question to win a star like mayweather.......it's pretty clear stuff.Comment

For Floyd he will, even if hes drained there's no threat facing Floyd, no power to worry about and the guy is smaller then you so the risk of the draining might not be as bad as facing someone like Canelo who is a threat.Comment

the problem is he said that he can make 154 comfortably. why not 155 for canelo? thats a extra pound?
are you chasing greatness or strictly in it for money? does he care that he's 34 years old and time is ticking for him to do something? i don't think so. golovkin wants the lowest risk for the most money.Comment
