Why Max Kellerman is Wrong On Mayweather Pacquiao Pound For Pound

Max is wrong on Pacquiao being greater than Mayweather pound for pound in an all time great conversation. His argument is that even though Mayweather is the better boxer head to head Pacquiao is the greater fighter pound for pound because he came from a smaller weight class. His argument has several holes and here is why.

He claims that Pacquiao started at 106 pounds and moved up to light middleweight and became champion. What he is forgetting is that Mayweather also fought as low as 106 pounds, the only difference between the two was that Manny was pro and Floyd was still fighting in the amateurs. Remember Floyd was a three time national champion at three different weight classes before turning pro.

He seems to be ignoring the fact that Manny was brutally knocked out twice before even getting to 130 pounds. How can Manny be greater pound for pound if he has been knocked out twice by guys smaller and less accomplished than Floyd? How can a man who has been defeated multiple times in multiple weight classes be greater than a man who has not been defeated in any weight class?

And the final hole in his argument is that he seems to be ignoring the result of Mayweather Pacquiao. Every time Manny would fight he would ask Manny about Floyd and vice versa. HBO built that fight up for 6 years and now they are pretending as if the result of the fight doesn't matter. Floyd beat Manny and easily beat a guy who also beat Manny in Marquez. Both Manny and Floyd had a weight advantage over Marquez in their last fights against him. So please don't use the weight excuse.

Using Max's logic, Holyfield is greater than Ali. Evander Holyfield came from light heavyweight and became the four time heavyweight champion. Muhammad Ali fought his whole professional career at heavyweight and was only a three time heavyweight champion of the world. Does that make Holyfield greater pound for pound than Muhammad Ali? NO

Well coming back from those knockouts early on arguably adds to his legacy because of the manner in which he came back from it. And don't bother arguing Floyd and Manny are the same or even similar size, Floyd is very clearly the bigger man, which is what won him the fight, and played a bigger role than his skill.

          It's simple logic.

          5 lineal

          8 division

Plus the fact that he argued about..

          Max kellerman's argument.

If Floyd was as small as Pac would he have beat him?

If Pac was as big as Floyd in size and reach would he have beat him?

          Answer:

Pac already did against the IV induced bigger man with just one healthy arm.

Now to make it equal in size, then that's a no brainer. Pac smokes this dude silly.

          # it's a no brainer who accomplished more and a far more superior fighter.

          # a little man that can beat bigger man will always be a legacy that will echoe through time

Look how amped this bigger IV man is.

Neck, traps, shoulders, arms, delts, triceps, biceps, chest size all bigger than Pac.

Floyd is amped up compared to Pac. Pac looks like a grade school kid fighting a high school bully in there. Imagine that, and the one who ran for 12 rounds was the amped up PED users. Lol

          # Max knows a real fighter fights. Being that Pac was the smaller man with a busted shoulder. Pac still pressed on and to most even won it against a bigger man who ran and hugged for dear life.

          # legacy is kind to real fighters. Fighters who rather run leaves a bad stench to boxing fans everywhere.

Manny is nowhere near as small as you fanboys try and make out , 152 at 6% body fat .

            Nov. 28, 2008 Freddie Roach

The size difference is what everyone is talking about. Manny is mature. He’s a much bigger person than he used to be. He’s not that skinny, 112-pound kid anymore. He weighs 152 pounds right now [a few weeks before the fight]. His body fat is six percent. He’s coming down to 147, not going up. He’s coming down, just like Oscar is. The biggest thing is, when someone goes up a weight class and fights and then comes back down to his original weight class, he usually has bad results. You see it in history. It happened to Roy Jones [who went from light heavyweight to heavyweight and back down]. Oscar will suffer to make 147; and I think he’ll be weaker as a result. I don’t think the bigger guy will be the stronger guy on Dec. 6. He’ll be taller, maybe a little heavier, but not stronger. Manny will be the bigger puncher, the faster puncher, the busier guy. Activity is my biggest thing. And Manny is better prepared for that. We fought four times this year. Oscar hasn’t fought four times in four years. I think speed and activity wins this fight, not size.

Of course his argument is flawed. Manny and Floyd were welterweights for over 5 years. Floyd beat Manny head to head. Floyd has a better record against common opponents. Floyd has never lost, never tied, never been on his @ss.

I find it strange how two great fighters fight and we discount the outcome. Crazy

^This. Boxing fans get shook up about little things that other people say and May and Pac fans tend to be very sensitive (almost as sensitive as the Brits).

Sharing our opinions is not enough anymore, we have to dismantle and defeat the opinions of others, by using ....opinions..... *sigh*

I agree with him, but to each his own. And FYI the greatest fighters of all time all have records littered with losses(some by knockout) but they are offset by great wins. Mayweather lacks great wins, his claim to greatness is his undefeated record, it depends on what you value more.

pacquiao is greater. he had to go through MUCH MORE ADVERSITY, he had to climb up from complete poverty to break records and make history. what history did mayweather break??? NONE. manny literally is a legend of the sport because of what he has accomplished and been through. so what if he was ko'ed early in his career??? he was 17 or 18 and still living in complete poverty at the time (nowhere near prime) hahahahahaha. give me a break.

manny accomplished far more while being the underdog countless times, and while faced with so much adversity. floyd had the benefit of growing up in a 1st world country and being trained in 1st world olympic pedigree. pac endured 3rd world struggles and poverty.
