So this is what boxing has come down to events in May and September because it lands on a Mexican holiday? De La Hoya and Golden Boy must think it doesn't matter who you put in with Canelo it will sell since Mexicans are going to support any fight is fed to them. Mexican boxing fans are very knowledgeable and this crap won't fly after this Khan. I know for sure that PPV numbers are going to be inflated because nobody is talking about this fight and didn't even know there was a fight this weekend.

I agree. Nobody is hype for this fight. Lots of Mexicans are beginning to see saul as a sissy.

He's fighting for money first and foremost. The belts are a distant second. That's my point.

Well, except the belts should bring more money, so that's part of the equation too.

In my world the fighters themselves may be driven in part by the belts or the glory or whatever - these are ego driven guys in the main - but when fights are made and the promoters do their thing it's all about the green.

Yes he is. But which opponent represents more money for Canelo and GBP? Khan or Golovkin? I'd say the latter. Why?

1) Canelo-GGG is a legit MW fight and would be promoted as such with 3 belts and the lineal title up for grabs, unlike the sheep turd happening on Saturday.
2) HBO has already been hyping Golovkin full throttle. He has a decent Latino fan base in the West, arguably equalling Khan's standing in America.
3) Canelo losing UK PPV revenue without Khan isn't a factor since the Bolton fighter probably takes most of that anyway (I could be wrong about this though).

I'd say Canelo would earn just as much (if not more) fighting Golovkin as he would tackling Khan; the fight represents a chance to consolidate everything at MW except the WBO belt; and he'd get FAR MORE street cred if he beats Golovkin. Do you at least agree on this point?

The way I see it, the level of Duck displayed by Canelo and Company is as subtle as dumping a pot of salsa on a pristine tablecloth. They are literally cowering under the looming shadow of a GGG beatdown.

Canelo vs. GGG is a much more lucrative fight, no doubt! Canelo is hoping that the money makes GGG concede to a catch-weight. What Canelo vs. Khan demonstrates is that Canelo can get that money without GGG. The numbers show that GGG can't get that money without Canelo! This is why I keep saying that if GGG must concede to a catch-weight IT IS WORTH IT!

So when were Maidana, Garcia, and Peterson ranked at 154 - 160??? GGG has fought middleweights, including middleweight contenders and earned the shot. Khan has not fought a single 154 to 160 pound fighter! We are talking about who has "EARNED" a shot at a Junior Middleweight or Middleweight title and no one Khan has faced or Khan himself has "EARNED" a shot at a Junior Middleweight or Middleweight title. NO ONE here believes Khan has earned it and NO ONE here believes Khan is the one Canelo should be fighting, period!

When was Pacquiao ranked @ 154? When was Algieri ranked @ 147? When was Roy Jones Jr. ranked @ anything above 175 before he got a shot at Ruiz? Again, this is not new!

That's not the point, he has 0 fights @ middle weight, yet he's fighting for the middle weight championship. Based on your logic it would make sense for Kovalev to fight Cotto because he's "marketable".

If Cotto agreed to come to 170, I guarantee you Kovalev would graciously accept a CW fight in MSG on the weekend of the Puerto Rican Day Parade! Why? M-O-N-E-Y!!! He would never turn down that offer to fight Chilemba!
