Again I'll ask you....Which one does Golovkin fight for? Gold or glory?

How many times have I told you that, to me, Ward and Golovkin's statements about dropping weight for Floyd should not be viewed as serious attempts to make a fight?

There's video proof of Ward saying he was not serious about fighting Floyd and that he can't get down to 160.

Unless you can show me similar video proof of anyone on Team Golovkin retracting their "he'll fight anyone from 154 to 168" statement then I'll have to continue to assume that they actually were serious. And I'll continue to call them out for failing to live up to it.

As if you needed me to answer.. I say GGG fights for glory, moreso than gold. Golovkin seems to more interested in winning belts and breaking the defense record than signing to fight smaller welerweights, like other 160lb champions.

Its like Hopkins. At the end of the day, people remember Hopkins more for his title defense record than they do for him getting beat by Taylor twice then moving up to get beat 3more times

They never retracted the statement but just like Ward they did qualify it in later interviews. Up or down for PPV fights. As GGGs circumstances have evolved so has the statement. GGG's perfectly willing to sacrifice for a big $$$ fight consistent with his statements. He's willing to drain himself as much as he can for Floyd who held a championship at 154. And he's been willing to get in with bigger guys like Froch and Chavez Jr. at a significant weight disadvantage because they brought $ and exposure.

Canelo is different because GGG has a contract to fight him next as the WBC mandatory should he beat Kahn. He can force Canelo to either take the fight at 160 or vacate. He has every right at this point to stick to his guns before negotiations start and say 160. I'm sure he knows what weight he's willing to go down to if he wants to make the fight happen. Offering that weight at this point would be almost as dumb as arguing about the whole issue ad nauseam when it'll be sorted in the next few weeks. Doesn't seem to me as if GGG cares much about the Canelo payday at this point. Maybe he's unwilling to put his titles up at 155 which makes sense to me. He can just have Canelo stripped and wait a year or so until Canelo feels like he wants to come out the the closet and admit he's a MW. The money's there either now or a little later. So, saying GGG should just give Canelo 155 because he'd do 154 for Floyd is obviously ******.

So if Golovkin fights for glory then why did his promoter turn down a fight with Andre Ward because he didn't "see financial sense" in it?

You've been waiting a whole day to ask me that? As the poster above eluded to, Gokovkin modified his statement of 154-168 to only include big money fights. The "glory" that Golovkin was and is fighting for are the middleweight belts and unification. GGG wants to break Hopkins record. He wants to be the first unified champion in a decade. Thats the glory Golovkin is fighting for, not Ward.

So, since Ward does not help him obtain a belt or give him credit for a title defense, Ward would have to fall in the category if big money fight. Giving away tickets, failing to fill your hometown arena to 50%, and having a viewing of 350k on regular cable, does not translate to a big money fight. Nonetheless a 50-50 offer was made to Ward on July 8, 2015, to which he responded3 weeks later, with a counter of mid 2016 after a tune up. Loeffler said early 2017 is a possibility if Ward can still make 168.

No logic there. If GGG fights for glory only why is he getting paid at all? He's said many times this is his job. Is GGG the only one you expect to fight for free? Just because you want to get paid fairly for fighting doesn't mean you can't have other aspirations or principles.

And when exactly was Ward ready to fight? You obviously think Golvokin should've accepted the offer Ward sent last year. Tell me why you would've signed the contract if you were GGG...

They are friends. It's all posturing at this point. Doesn't hurt that with every statement from either camp fans debate this junk until it's nothing but a bloody puddle.

Golovkin's been ready for this fight since Canelo won the belt. Canelo, or at least Golden Boy, is not. If it's about the belt, Canelo will vacate and say he's not ready to fight at 160. No big deal. GGG can take the belt and move on to Saunders, Jacobs, etc... If GGG really wants the fight, he probably already knows a weight he'd be willing to go down to in order to make it happen now. We'll find out in a few weeks.
