Hah, this is why I love this argument. The argument from both sides is virtualy meaningless. Corrales fans know he cheated, yet excuse it because technically he did get punished for it. Castillo fans know what Corrales did is wrong but doesn't always nescesarily warrant a DQ of sorts.

The castillo weight argument is just ****ing ******, however.

I agree, but for diferent reasons. Chico agreed to go ahead with the fight knowing Castillo was over weight. For me, thats case closed, argument over. No cheating occurred!

in fact he deducted points, which is quite different from "excused"

it is obviously the case that also not making weight is "excused, when it is not abused" otherwise castillo could not have fought, would have been stripped of his license, and so on...

Exactly! It's not like he didnt know ahead of time castillo didnt make wt...but, considering how little he was over the limit, he must have thought it wasnt going to matter. And he weighed more than Castillo come fight time too....all those things considered, the weight argument is weak at best. How many fighters come in over the limit?? Its a regular occurance.

I sense another of those long threads on the issue is starting, and I dont see some of the usual posters you see on those threads.

I officially stop adding anything to mouthpiece/weight issue in this thread.

whatever argument I will read on the subject, I will pretend not to.

Look at James Toney, 21 pounds above weight for Roy Jones...but Jones didn`t complain! Why? Because it served Roy an advantage and he was able to beat on a drained fighter. Had Corrales won this issue would have never been mentioned. Dare i say the words....excuses....sour g****s....and my favorite when going to a boxing rules meeting....PROTECT YOURSELF AT ALL TIMES!

I have to agree with wmute, this topic has been beaten to death, and neither side is going to agree with the other. I agree with you too...I think just about anybody would say that had chico won, the wt. wouldnt be an issue at all. I've debated this probably more than any other topic in the past 2 yr's, and still think that being a lb. or two over the limit is NORMAL, but what diego pulled, well, that was a new one to me. The blantant spitting/pulling of the mouthpiece, and the outrageous amount of recovery time it gained him....not to mention how it affected the end of the fight...beats the hell out of coming in over a lb.
