  • Got one fool saying the whitehouse dinner airing is why this fight flopped and another saying well even though it was advertised as a prime time show and is on the daily Prime Time ratings it's not really prime time and how dare you compare it to other sporting events that are on that same Prime Time ratings chart because it's not really prime time. HAHAHA

this is almost as bad as when one of the fanboys tried to defend PBC flopping on ESPN because WNBA on ESPN2 aired head to head. SMH

First of all, last Saturday's PBC on Fox did not air in prime time. 5-7pm PT on Saturday is not prime time, so your comparisons to prime time sporting events (which typically start at 7:30pm PT) is misplaced. So are your comparisons to non-sports prime time programming.

PBC cards on CBS did almost exactly the same as college basketball on CBS. If those viewership numbers are "bad" for boxing, then they have to be considered "bad" for college basketball too. CBS was doing better with afternoon boxing than any of the other networks. CBS didn't "cancel"; the network can't cancel time buys. PBC changed strategies and moved away from afternoon cards - across the board, not just CBS.

To me, the main question is whether it's good or bad for the sport. And to me it's not bad that 2 million people or more (once final numbers come in) saw Ortiz-Berto 2 and Williams-Rodriguez.

I couldn't care less if PBC's financial model works, any more than I care if Just For Men got their money's worth on Friday Night Fights or if Kia generates a good ROI on those ****** NBA Kia commercials.
Good post. Networks are more willing to pay money to sports since viewers most often watch those live. So their eyes are glued on the TV even for the commercials and advertisers. I know yall had a taste for Corona and Papa Johns afterward lol.

So comparing the PBC with other sports is fair. And you're right about the Sunday and Saturday afternoon fights. I forgot who it was, but somebody from the PBC said they reassessed what worked and what didn't work last year and modified their strategy some. Apart of that was getting rid of the afternoon fights.

White House correspondents dinner at 10pm on Saturday night attracted more viewers than the NFL draft and NHL playoff game. It didn't affect PBC on FOX because it wasn't on head-to-head, but it was a very highly viewed program. In cable, it was second only to the NBA playoff game.

          • If you are a boxing fan that claims to love action and KO's and didn't watch the Fox card on Sat, you missed plenty of action, KO's, young talent, and evenly matched past it veterans.

No one said it wasn't. If you follow politics you watch it if you follow sports you will never miss that sports event because of the White House dinner. Just like the WNBA on ESPN2 didn't stop any boxing fans from watching PBC on ESPN. It's a lame excuse proving how desperate you and other PBC fanboys will go to just to try and sugar coat these disastrous ratings. Kind of like saying a PBC fight wasn't prime time so we shouldn't compare it to the other prime time sporting events that it went head to head with. LMAO Instead let's cherry pick bad examples and compare it to those same sports but not when they aired Sat night no no. No lets compare it to TNT (cable not Network) and Sunday Noon (worst time of the day) because those ratings are a little closer to how bad PBC just did. It's called trying to cook the books for a terrible argument. SMH

                    So peaked at about 350k?

I watched the card, but one thing I couldn't understand was why this card, consisting of international fighters, was held in Washington DC. This would have been electric in Canada.

No. 342K for DeGale-Medina, 336K for Jack-Bute. Those are averages, no peaks reported.
